Average cost for bridal makeup in Atlanta?

Lauren R., on November 24, 2014 at 2:34 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 17

I just got a quote from a makeup artist a couple of people recommended to me for $160 for my makeup (the trial is an additional $70) and then $70 for each of my bridesmaids. That is for a full face of makeup for all of us and for me they would add lashes (which I'm not sure I need, but whatever). That seems on the high side to me, but maybe it isn't since they would be coming to us on the day of the wedding. What have you Atlanta ladies paid/had quoted? I just want to see if I'm on the right track or if I should keep looking. Her work appears to be really good.

The cost seems high to me. But then again I haven't looked into make up Artists bc I'm getting my done by one of my bridesmaids. I live in Atlanta. It doesn't hurt to shop around.

N $70 for a trial that seems like wayyy too much.

That's so awesome that your bridesmaid is doing it for you! What a great resource.

And yeah, the $70 trial price got me too. Thank you for confirming that I am not crazy. I feel like that should be included, especially if I am paying for myself and 7 (possibly 8) other people!

I have already located a couple of people with lower prices. Hopefully someone is available.

That's super high. I think my makeup was something like $60 to $70 and my trial was half that? I'm sure part of the extra cost is coming from the false lashes but that's still really excessive (plus $70 for a trial??). You have plenty of time to find the right vendor so good luck!

I'm a bridesmaid in an Atlanta wedding in December. I'm not sure what the bride is paying, but each bridesmaid is paying $65 for makeup, plus an extra $10 if we want false lashes. The makeup artist is traveling to our location up at Windemere Country Club.

I've hired people to do makeup for promotional events for as little as $45 a face, and they did a decent job for what was needed, but I'm not sure I'd recommend them for wedding makeup. Luckily, there are tons of choices in Atlanta!

Well, so far, out of the quotes I have received, she is the most reasonably priced! Unbelievable. If any of you ladies end up with someone you like, please feel free to pass the info along. I would be very thankful. lol

Actually, that price seems average. I'm getting married in LA, but live in Atlanta, so I just wanted to compare the makeup artist costs. I don't remember exactly how much it was, but it was around that $160 amount. I would say you would want lashes, when taking photos your eyes would look so much better, you have no idea.

In LA, I have a friend who has her own studio, its $400 for both hair, makeup, jewelry and veil rental, trial and travel. (normally she charges $550 with the trial) Bridesmaids are $66 for hair or makeup and $110 for both... I'm not paying for my 'maids. if they want it they can pay, if not they can do their hair/makeup theirselves or go elsewhere... I'm not picky on how their hair/makeup looks. I am treating them to nails though as part of their bridesmaids gift Smiley smile

**Also my friend's studio just won the "best beauty of Southern California bride"

I would make sure that price includes travel, cause sometimes its extra, unless you don't mind going in the morning and having your makeup "hopefully" last all day...

When makeup artists' travel, they usually charge more. Not only does it take a lot of time for them to do your face, it also takes them time to clean and sanitize all of their brushes, not to mention packing it away when they travel, this is where the cost come from.

Thanks for the perspective, Jewles. I have definitely figured out that I can't afford to pay for my bridesmaids (though I would have liked to )! A manicure treat is a great alternative. I will just have to allocate more to this area than I originally planned.

Any opinions on traditional makeup vs. airbrush? I am finding that a few will only do airbrush.

Lauren have you considered visiting a MAC counter, a lot of the girls who work there do make up on the side and some have real talent-- this was my plan B, bc I dont have hundreds in my budget for make up.

I am unfortunately allergic to MAC, but maybe I can have my sister visit with me and judge their work from her trial. I will have to look into that more closely, but it's something to consider. Thanks for reminding me of that!

Price for makeup will have multiple factors. One location (New York City is more expensive then Louisville Kentucky etc), two experience of the artist, three services you want provided (on site vs. in salon). There are a lot of hobbyists out there who are not professional makeup artists. They will low ball the price, which initially sounds appealing. The problem is these people are not versed as professionals, rarely carry professional products and don't know proper sanitation techniques.

You can get eye infections/herpes from someone who does not use proper sanitation techniques.

I charge $230 for wedding day makeup and trial in Houston. I have invested thousands of dollars into a professional kit of makeup that can accommodate anyones skin type. I also do makeup education several times a year. All of those things factor into the cost of makeup for me.

Thanks! It's nice to get a professional's perspective. VERY good point about sanitation methods. Just the thought of someone not having that down makes me itch. lol

This is less expensive than what I was quoted although I know the place I am looking at is known to be more expensive. Hair AND makeup with trials for both is $395. If you want one or the other WITH trial is is $275. (Brushworx)

Yeah, Ashley, I also contacted Brushworx. I think I could swing it for my portion, but it was more than I promised my ladies they would have to pay for attendant makeup. I hear they do an excellent job. They were referred to me by a co worker of mine.

I live in Atlanta. My makeup is $65 (including lashes) &45 for BP(including lashes). She's fabulous but she does use MAC products. IMO, that's too much to spend. I would keep looking.

I forget how much mine cost but it's 85 including lashes for my bridesmaid. My MUA is also going to touch me up after ceremony for pics. I also invited her to my wedding since she is a friend and she is an amazing artist! I support talent
