Average Accepted rsvp for DW?

PBiazinha, on February 9, 2017 at 11:06 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 12

Hi ladies.

We're doing a DW and we're considering doing a celebration at home- I have, however decided that I don't want that anymore (a discussion here earlier today made me realize a few things I wasn't weighting) and that it would become way to expensive and defeat the purpose of having the destination wedding as our only special date.

- I am not considering adding some of the closer people to the guest list for DW, mostly because we didn't want to exclude some of them but not necessarily because we are super close to them either.

Question is: should I expect most people to come? Do you have a high rate of acceptance of invitation?

Please share! Thanks

It really depends on your people. I had a friend get married in Hawaii and only 2 friends came. Another friend also in Hawaii had 80.

You can never tell with how attendance is going to go, but usually DWs have a higher rate of declines.

You never really know, it just depends on the people you're inviting. We will be having a 95% acceptance rate, but we only really invited our really close friends and family and we almost knew that no one would miss it. We gave them over a year's notice.

Industry standard is to expect 15-20% declines to the average wedding, not sure about DW.

Depends on how far it is, how close of a relationship the guests are to you and all that. There are so many things that have to be considered there's no set average. Plus too for DWs I costs money especially when you thinking of inviting a family. It's too hard to tell

For our DW, we invited 108 and 50 are attending. And honestly, I am so glad it's a smaller crowd. The average acceptance rate is more like 50-60% for DWs. With that said, don't invite more than the venue limit.

Thanks guys!!! I guess my list will work out since I kinda have non travelers. I'm just feeling better about making the decision of or doing an at home reception! You all are so helpful! I'm so thankful for the forums! I don't have a lot of people to talk to and my family is in another country so makes the process so much easier! Thanks a lot!

I think with a DW it's really a know your crowd thing. If we were planning on inviting everyone we know, it would probably be closer to 50-70% acceptance rate, but we've cut down to only the closest people who we know will make lots of effort to come and are expecting closer to a 90% acceptance rate. It also depends on where the DW is - we chose London as it was easiest for the largest number of guests. If we'd chosen Hawaii, I think the decline rate would be much higher.

It depends on your guests and the location you choose. We have already had 10 people book their hotel and flights for our DW. Out of those 10 I was only expecting that 4 would actually attend. We budgeted for all guests to attend so we will be able to properly host everyone invited. And we are so happy that the others are able to attend, but surprised.

I would budget and plan on everyone on the guest list attending. That way, you won't be stuck coming up with extra money if you get more guests than you were expecting. If some people don't attend, you just save a little money and have it for something else.

I invited 90 and 40 people came to our destination wedding.. I think it all depends on the destination. We had a cruise ship wedding and it was pretty affordable.

I see you are getting married in Key West? That could be harder for guests to afford the flight, rental car, housing, etc.

It definitely depends! Acceptance rate is definitely lower for destination weddings (closer to 30% decline rate), but it depends on how far of a destination it is, how many people you are inviting, and how far and frequently your invited guests typically travel for weddings!

We only had a 15% decline rate for our DW so I don't think you can always count on a higher decline. It varies greatly.
