Hello fellow wedding obsessed!

My fiancé and I found a venue that we love but the only available dates are late August or late October. We are planning on hosting ceremony through dinner outdoors and we are concerned about weather. What are your thoughts about late August or late October in NYC? Has anyone gotten married on these dates? Attended any weddings during these dates? All opinions are welcome!! Thanks!

To be honest, neither of those are ideal for a fully outdoor wedding. Late August is still typically very hot, and late October can be anywhere from really hot to freezing depending on the year and even the day. Is there no indoor space at the venue you are interested in? What is the plan if it rains?

    Hannah-- thanks for your response!

This is the challenge we are faced with, neither dates are ideal. It's certainly cold and dreary right now, so that is making me not want October. The venue has a tented rain plan, but more importantly, we want everything outdoors so that we can create the safest environment that we can during COVID.

Haha yeah, I was literally thinking about today and going "I certainly wouldn't want to be at a wedding right now." Would you be able to have fans or heaters (depending on the temperature) to try to make the environment more comfortable? I think August gives you less surprises in that it is most likely going to be hot, but October can be anywhere from hot to freezing (and all in the same day). However, you can luck out and get that like 1 perfect fall day we get once a year and have it be on your wedding day.

I think a late August late afternoon to evening wedding would be very nice. It may start hot but end up perfect. Good luck!

We did late August at a semi-outdoor location in NYC.

That said, it was a full structure, with garage-door style windows that could be opened up across the entire front. It was on the Hudson River, so it had the cooling effect of the water, and it could also be closed in and cooled.

We got lucky and it was a perfect 80 degree day.

The thing with October is that you cannot rely on it, even with the later summers. I'd pick August, if you can find a way to cool things down.

The venue says they have air conditioning but I’m skeptical about how effective it is. But with that said, I’m leaning toward August and just shifting the start time to around 6 so that it can cool down as the sun sets. I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed the whole time. Thanks for your help!

In NYC the weather changes drastically during those two months. For an outside wedding, for me personally I would go with October as long as you have a tent in case it rains. It can be scorching hot at the end of August and idk if I’d want to be outside for hours during it
