August 22, 2020 Wedding

Devin, on July 11, 2020 at 10:47 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 8
Hi all,

I am getting married August 22nd. My fiancé and I decided to keep the date of our wedding with hopes things with coronavirus will be okay around that time. Of course if things are really bad closer to that time we will postpone last minute. I felt good with our decision but am starting to wonder if we are selfish to keep our date. We invited 150 guests (knowing a good amount will probably decline), we will be providing masks and hand sanitizer, and the venue is very large. We will be having no more than eight guests at a 12 person table. Are we crazy to continue?

Is there a way you can space out more ? 8 guests per table is still quite a bit unless they’re in a household together.

I should have worded that better. The most at a table will be eight, some tables will be less. All table sizes fit up to 12. It all depends on households and who we know will feel comfortable eating with who. So yes, we will most definitely space out more where needed.

We have no guarantees that things will get better in 3 months or a year from now so as long as your county allows the number of people you're inviting I think you should move forward. It sounds like you are taking every precaution and guests have free will to decline if they are not comfortable attending.

You are not being selfish. Proceeding with your plans the best way you can is not selfish! Some people are just ready to move past the wedding, have money tied into it, and want to proceed in the safest way possible and that is ok!!! Anyone who doesn’t think it’s okay can decline your invitation. Try not to beat yourself up. I have days that I feel a little crazy for moving forward too, but I know in my heart it’s the right time for us and I’m ready to be married and move on from the wedding. We’re getting married next month. Best wishes to you!

You're not being selfish! It's a tough time and everyone needs to make the right decision for them. 150 isn't crazy big, and any guest who feels uncomfortable can decline or just choose to come to certain parts of the event. I think guests will loosen up as the event goes along and have fun. My friends have been to similarly sized weddings in the past couple of months and had a ball.

That is very true- who knows how long this will last. Postponing could put me in the same boat next year. Thank you, Jill!!

That is one thing I am hoping for, once people are there they can loosen up and feel better about everything. Thank you so much, Marcia!
