August 15, 2020 - outdoor in Illinois

Brooke, on July 3, 2019 at 4:10 PM Posted in Illinois Planning 0 3

Hello ladies!

I am having my wedding reception at a pavilion in the Galena Territories (Illinois) on August 15, 2020. We plan on having extra ice/water/drinks, there are ceiling fans along the rafters of the pavilion, and hoping to have a few extra fans around. The reception will begin around 5-6pm and we plan on having plenty of bug spray as well. I am wondering if anyone has advice on this outdoor location at this time of year! The pavilion has screens along all sides and picnic tables around the outside if we request. I am nervous it will be too hot. How would a cake/icing hold up in outdoor weddings? Advice on keeping ice/drinks cold?

Thanks for any ideas or advice you might have Smiley smile

As you can imagine, icing (or pretty much anything) doesn’t hold up well in heat. You might be a little safer with fondant. However the best person to ask is your cake vendor.

Hey Brooke! Congratulations on your engagement! It’s so great to have you join the WeddingWire community!

I would discuss this with your bakery but perhaps storing your cake in a refrigerator until it’s time to cut the cake would be the best idea. You are right, you don’t want the icing to melt off your cake!!

As you mentioned, make sure that you have plenty of water for your guests to drink and plenty of ice at the bar so that you don’t run out!

Do you have a caterer? They should be able to help keep ice well stocked and ice down drinks! If not, definitely designate a person to do this. Is there an indoor area with a catering kitchen that things can be stored in and brought out in batches as needed? Good luck!
