Attention everyone on BIRTH CONTOL, especially Nuvaring!

Sh, on November 8, 2013 at 6:06 PM Posted in Married Life 0 25

If you didn't already see my other post, today I found out that I am pregnant. This was quite a shock because I have been on Nuvaring for almost 2 years. I went to the Doctor's to get checked out a lump that I found on my breast and I got the news. I was so shocked I wasn't sure if I should be angry or happy. I just want anyone on Nuvaring to be careful and either switch BC or use 2 forms of contraception. Everyone else, please research research research before choosing a BC.

Did they give you a reason for why this may have occurred? I'm on the pill and worry every day that it won't hold up :/

No BC is 100% effective, unfortunately. Condoms are like 98% with perfect use, but waaaaay less with "normal" use. The pill is similar--pretty low chance of pregnancy if you use it perfectly (every single day, same time every day, no medications that interact with it), but the chances go up with the way most people use it. I've never used NuvaRing so I don't know about that.

My boss used to joke that her daughter had a 1 in a billion chance of being born. I finally asked her why--my boss was on the pill and they were using condoms when the daughter was conceived. Now THAT freaked me out.

I guess sometimes when it's your turn to be a parent...it's your turn! Even when you take every precaution possible!

AlmostMrsKing- they just told me what Lori said, no BC is 100% effective.

Amanda- I've always wanted to be a mother and would ask DH at least 5 times a month if we were still planning on waiting 2 full years. He said "well you got the baby you wanted so bad!"

    I can't wait to be a mother....one day!

If I were to accidentally get pregnant our life would turn upside down. It would be a blessing but boy would a lot change...

I stopped using NuvaRing 2 months after I got on it. It made me super hormonal. All birth control does that to me. I can't have the hormones. They made me feel pregnant again.

If I didn't think I could handle a kid, I wouldn't be having sex. That said, we double up on BC LOL

I cried every day for 6 months when I was pg with my second child. We finally bonded once I met her in delivery :-)

I would die. I am not the best at using my BC...I just take it before bed, whenever that is. I swear I'm infertile or something. I'm pretty careless but have never had an issue, while I watch girls who were incredibly strict about using it and got pregnant, multiple times.

My FSIL and I both got pregnant on nuvaring, with the use of condoms.. It just happens when it happens.. It cracks me up, like its the universe saying" thanks for being super careful, but I think you are ready for parenthood, so there!", lol.. Congrats! Even though it's unexpected, great things will happen..

Unfortunately, all methods of contraception fail sometimes. In three large clinical trials of 13 cycles of NuvaRing® use, pregnancy rates were between one and two per 100 women-years of use. But if you're that one, that's not a comfort.

I got pregnant once while using a diaphragm and jelly (reliably every time), breastfeeding full-time, and not having sex anywhere near the right time of month. I felt pregnant on what should have been the first day of my period, and told my then husband so. His response was along the lines of, "You've got to be kidding!" But I was right.

We double up on BC by using the pill and condoms or the pill and avoiding the time of month that most likely i would get pregnant. Right now it's the pill and him being in another state. I researched everything.

No bc or condom is 100% effective. The only true 100% pregnancy deterrent, is not having sex. If you (general pop) dont think you're ready for kids, double up on bc & condoms, & hope for the best, or just plain dont have sex...

Ortho evra (patch) has been my only bc and it's worked wonderfully. But I never assume it's ALWAYS going to work, & I've had plenty of prego scares, that just turned out to be stress screwing my cycle.

People get pregnant when nature/god/whatever higher power you believe in, decide it's your time. Nature is not stupid, if anything nature is smarter than us, but we as a human race are so prideful we think we control the world...

Congrats Shelley. It's a shocker for sure, but hopefully this will be a wonderful change in your life. Smiley smile

Glad to read the lump was noncancerous, and though the baby was unplanned and unexpected, I hope it is something you can be excited about and not have to make many hard changes in your life.

Just don't double up on condoms at one time that can make them break more easily. @Nafina I am with you on the you get pregnant when God decides it's time.

The only thing that is 100% proven is abstinence. I have known girls who have been on BC forever and still gotten pregnant. Then there are ones who tried for soo long to get pregnant. It's just when its met to happen, its going to happen Smiley smile

Im a baby lover! I don't want an army- but I could use one more to our little family. I can't wait till its time to start trying for #2. Wishing you a healthy and happy pregnancy!
