Attending engagement party

Sarah, on February 4, 2017 at 6:48 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 12

My FH and I are attending his friends engagement party. Do we need to bring a gift, card? Is it just a celebration of their engagement? I'm unsure what it really is, we aren't having one so I haven't researched it!

I would bring a nice card, I loved going though all the ones we were given the next day. If you wanted too maybe a small gift, gift card or cash.

Note - I'm in Australia so it might be a bit different to the US norms.

A congratulatory card would be nice! Gifts are for the wedding shower. People may still bring gifts to an engagement party.

For our party our friends paid for our dinner, we got a few cards, a bottle of wine, and one couple got us a picture frame to frame our wedding pics. You definitely do not have to bring anything and if you want to, bring a card. Ours was hosted by our friends so for us the thought itself meant the world to us.

You don't have to bring anything, though a card and something small like a bottle of wine is appropriate and appreciated. I got my MoH a pair of champagne flutes for her engagement.

A gift isn't expected, but it's a nice touch. We had one and only received a few gifts that night (most being cards/champagne), but we were really just so overwhelmed with happiness that everyone came to celebrate us! I loved reading all the cards the next day. If it's a more formal engagement party, I would ask if anyone else is bringing gifts. One I went to was, and we brought a gift from the couples registry. If this is more casual, a card and a bottle should do just fine Smiley smile

I'm actually having my engagement party next weekend, and I've requested no gifts.

You don't need to bring a gift. However, I don't like to go places empty-handed. I have always brought a card and either a bottle of champagne or a nice picture frame to an engagement party.

ETA: At our engagement party, lots of people brought us champagne and cards! We got 2 picture frames that were a love-theme, my bff gave me a "bride" robe, another friend gave me ring cleaner and bride magazine, and another friend brought me all the planning books she had used for her wedding (not really a gift, more like just passing them on). And many other guests didn't bring a gift at all which was of course, fine as well.

Card and a bottle of champagne/wine should do the trick!
