Athletic body type-friendly dresses

Sophie, on February 8, 2018 at 1:37 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 8
I am having THE hardest time finding a dress that flatters me well! To all my athletic ladies (muscley shoulders, thick thighs) what are some recommendations of dress types?? I’m way beyond the “mermaid accentuates curves” lines...

An A line would hide your thighs a bit if you're worried about that. I also wonder if a ball gown would balance out your shoulders and make them seem smaller?

I would just be open to trying on different styles - every dress is going to look a little different on everyone since no two people are built exactly the same. I would just go into a salon and let them know you are open to trying on different styles in your price range - you may find that you really love a ball gown with sleeves or youll find that you really love a strapless sheath. Just be open to trying everything rather than worry about what might look good.

The more options you give yourself to try something the more opportunity it creates for you to like something you might not have pictured in your head.

I agree with Munchkin, be open to trying a lot on. I also have broad shoulders and like the way strapless gowns make me look, others with broad shoulders hate strapless downs. Sometimes off the shoulder stuff just makes my shoulders look wider, sometimes it draws attention away from them. It really just depends on the style.

If you've got good back definition, try some dresses that plunge in the back!

I don’t have pictures on my new phone yet but I have a rather athletic build. I tried on a strapless dress and even though my shoulders are defined, it wasn’t very flattering. I wore a backless a-line dress with no train. It was sleeveless but the parts covering my shoulders was thick so it slimmed my shoulders out. The bottom of the dress was fitted enough to accentuate my booty and hips in a flattering way but flowed looser over my thighs and down to my feet.

I have an athletic type build, I actually love my strapless trumpet dress! I never thought I would ever try one on and once I did I fell in love. My thighs are thick and my shoulders are broad (not overly broad) I have muscular arms and I honestly have never felt more beautiful, I put it on ever now and then and don't want to take it off! Plus to the trumpet - it hugs my butt - in a sexy way! Lot's of luck! Keep an open mind!
