At a Loss For Words

Stacey, on January 1, 2020 at 11:18 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 36

My sister just texted me that she was looking online for shoes to wear for the wedding and she sends me a photo of them. I had asked all of my bridesmaids to wear silver shoes so she thought because they are silver that I would be okay with them. My wedding is formal so I don't really think Keds are appropriate. I am not buying her shoes so do you think it is out of line for me to tell her I don't want her in sneakers for the wedding? I want her to be comfortable, but there a ton of different more appropriate options she could have selected like flats or sandals. I have linked the shoes below as well as the dress she plans on buying.

I don't think it's bad to say you would rather something more formal. Maybe keds for reception?

Is she wearing a long or short dress? If a short dress, I’d ask for a more formal shoe. If they’re wearing long dresses, I don’t see this being an issue as almost no one will see their shoes anyway.

I would ask her to wear more formal shoes for ceremony/pictures. Maybe she can whip these keds out for dancing later when you want to kick your heels off anyway

I don't care what she wears for the reception, but for the ceremony I would think something else would be better.

I added a link to the dress in the description. She hasn't purchased it yet, but that is the one she is leaning towards. It is long, but it has a slit up so when she walks or poses in photos you would be able to see them.

OMG, you are so RIGHT, for a formal wedding, no sneakers!!! I'm buying my bridesmaids shoes because I want them all the same, jjshouse.com has a lot to choose from, good luck.

Thanks! It doesn't matter to me if they wear the same shoes as I want everyone to be comfortable, but I think sneakers is too comfortable. If she wants to change into Keds at the reception okay, but for the ceremony and photos I would refer something else.

I would say those are cute for the reception but for the ceremony you would like some silver heels.

Has she worn heels before? Is she a thicker woman, bad knees, bad ankles, etc? If she has a reason for not wearing heels it should be fine. I personally believe my bridal party's comfort is very important. I would ask her to slip on different shoes for the photos with your bridal party, but aside from that I don't think it should be a problem. She's paying 🤷‍♀️

The disappointing thing it that jj house doesn't have larger sizes. Their shoes are cute. 😞😞

Yes, she has worn heels. She doesn't have bad knees or anything like that. She is a nurse so she is used to standing all day. Her husband isn't very tall so I am guessing that's why she doesn't want to wear heels. She doesn't even need to wear heels. Sandals or flats would be fine. One of my bridesmaids hates heels and she plans on wearing a cute pair of sandals which are totally fine. If she wants to wear them for the reception that's totally fine, but I would definitely prefer something else for the ceremony and photos.

It doesn't even need to be heels. She could wear sandals or flats.

Well you told her silver and she found silver. And since she's doing a long dress, she probably thinks they won't show. If you want a dressy shoe, you should probably specify.

You asked what we thought and I answered. Since you are trying to convince me and others that we are wrong you've already made up your mind. So why post the question?

Considering she knows it is a formal wedding, I would have thought it was common sense that you don't wear sneakers to a formal wedding.

Personally, I'd let her wear them. You said silver and she picked silver.
