Assigned Table vs. Assigned Seat

Are you assigning guests seats or just tables? Any advice/experience regarding either? Any pictures of what you are doing/have done would also be helpful! P.S. I am on mobile so I apologize if there are any threads currently covering this topic.

This past weekend one of the weddings I worked just had a big framed sign with the names and table number of the guests. I went around and put the place cards on the table. They did not have to be in a special seat at the table, I did however put people with the same names next to one another. (Hard to know if they are married) There is really no reason not to have your place cards out in the cocktail area tho. My opinion is that this way is much easier. Smiley smile

We're assigning seats. We are having two long tables, and only 30 guests.

Just tables. I made a list of all guests in alphabetical order with their table # and framed it and put it on an easel. I unfortunately do not have a picture. It turned out pretty cute, I ordered it on etsy.

We're doing assigned tables.. assigned seats seems like a bit much and none of us need that extra work haha. your venue should have stuff coming around to confirm what people are having and will bring out their food however the server keeps track.. and you can always tell your venue who is under 21 or what table they will be at if they are giving you a hard time for it.

Assigned tables! The only time I would assign a seat is for a specific individual with special needs/accommodations. For example, my little brother has severe food allergies so he will have an assigned seat so that the waiter knows where to bring his food, which will be different than everyone else.

We're assigning tables. We have escort cards that people van use to mark their seat and we're going to use stickers to indicate which meal choice they receive, under 21, etc.

Originally we were going to just do assigned tables. but then we decided on long tables instead of round, which meant each table holds 24 people instead of 8-10 and I thought of the problem of assigning people to the same table because they know each other, but getting there and there onyl being seats that sit them on the entire other side of the long table as the only other people they know. Or, couples getting separated. I don't think i'm being micormanagey. Instead, I'm making sure that the people I invite get to sit with people they know so that they enjoy the wedding as much as they can

@Kelsey SUPER CUTE! I love your colors and the pine cones!

@OP We're assigning tables. Seats seemed like an extra step I didn't need to worry about. All my guests are adult enough to pick a seat. I just figured I'd take the guess work out of the seating and assign them a table.

I'm planning on having assigned tables. They grown they can sit where they want as long as its their assigned table. Plus I don't want that extra headache on top of the obe I'm going to have from assigning tables.

I'm assigning tables just to ensure the seats are filled. We are doing buffet style so there is no need to do seats to help the caterer.

Just assigning tables. People are at least smart enough to figure the rest out themselves

I went with assigned seats! It was easier for my venue to then deliver the right entree selection, and I just wanted an excuse to do something cute for personalized place cards Smiley smile Honestly once you've figured out who is sitting at what table you've done 90% of the work, and assigning individual seats was a no-brainer.

I had menus at each plate that did double-duty as their place card!
