Assigned Seats

futuremrsrichardson, on March 22, 2018 at 4:59 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 16

Do I need to actually assign seats for each table - specifically the head table or can I just leave it up to my family to sit where they would like to sit? I am doing a very long "family" table in addition to a head table with the bridal party. Family will be at the large table in the middle, I will still assign each as an individual table & the bridal party will be at the front.

For that long table in the middle, yes, you should assign specific seats. I would assign seats anywhere you have multiple tables set end to end like that.

Please make sure to include the SOs/dates of your bridal party at the BP table.

Yes, otherwise there will be much shuffling around as people try to fit in their dates and families at each table.

Hmm I agree with Mrs.Fall Bride, I would probably assign seats.

For us we are having a buffet and all round tables like the others in your layout. We are only doing tables not seats. My only hesitation with assigning seats on a long table like that is that sometimes people would rather sit on the edges for whatever reason, but I would trust family to talk to the people on the end, and move all the necessary place cards if that were the case. I saw assign and if they feel the need to be moved then they could always just swap with another couple if they agreed on it I suppose (unless that bothers you... it wouldn't bother me but I'm pretty passive and probably wouldn't notice unless it was someone sitting right next to me Smiley smile )

My venue has long tables end on end like the one you have in the middle. I'm now thinking that it might be best to assign seats.

I don’t think assigned seating but maybe to a specific table. Are you having a plated dinner ? How would the servers know which quests has what food? That is the only worry I would have if not assigned.

With that long table I would assign seats, just to avoid confusion, and someone ending up not being able to sit with their date.

And if you're going to assign seats on the long table I would assign seats on all your tables, it can be really confusing and weird when some people are more assigned then others.

My venue has 96 long tables and I’m not having assign tables or chairs because people like to move around and visit or sit with other members so I’m just leaving it up to them. I’m just doing numbers for my tables.

Can I ask, why are you doing numbers if you're not assigning?

If you are having a plated dinner I would assign seats to avoid confusion and people getting split up at a large table like that.

Yes, one is because it gives the tables a really elegant touch and I really like how it looks on the centerpiece that I’m having.

We're doing long harvest tables like that, and we're assigning seats.

If this will be you floor layout and you want certain people to seat at the long tables you should have assigned seats. This way you will not have to politely as someone to find another seat.

Are the SO's really supposed to be at the head table? We will have a traditional head table an the rest are round. We will only have signs on a few tables that read "RESERVED FOR BRIDES/GROOMS FAMILY" and the rest will be unassigned (we are having a buffet & well I don't want the stress or extra work of making a seating chart LOL). One of the close tables will be for all the SO's of the bridal party. Only one of my BM's has an SO and he's my BIL and will also be performing the ceremony. I didn't want the head table to look unbalanced or make my girls feel odd that they don't have SO's.

Yes, yes they must sit together. No one wants to sit apart, and make small talk, not even for an hour.
