Assigned Seating? Yes or No?

I'm going to have 144 people at my wedding. Luckily, I've planned for 150 but I'm not sure if I should give each guest a table number, since I already purchased escort cards or have them sit wherever? It's just hard to figure out who wants to sit where

At the very least you need to assign tables.

@Lauren if you have a buffet dinner that is open for a long period of time and refreshed while other activities are going on (such as dancing or cocktails at the same time) then perhaps you could get away with not assigning tables. I attended one reception that did this successfully--we mingled, wandered to sign the guest book, eventually got a plate of food and ate...it was fine.

However, if you intend for everyone to eat at the same point in time, then you should definitely assign tables for the convenience of your guests.

Yeah, I guess I should definitely assign tables to my guests. Was unsure of that too, but I definitely don't want chaos...& I certainly don't want extra tables due to center pieces & everything else. Thanks for the reassurance!

I've seen most people assign tables but not seats. People don't tend to bunch up in to groups of 8 or 10 evenly so you'll end up with a lot of half empty tables.

I plan on doing assigned seating because my mother, father, and step mom will be in the room and that is already stressing me out. So I plan on sitting them on opposite sides of the room with In-laws in the middle.

Edit: Only assigning tables, not actual seats.
