Assigned Seating or Self Seating?

Assigned is usually recommended because otherwise guests have to take time finding a table, and there’s a risk of parties getting split up or overcrowding a table so they can all sit together, etc.

I would suggest assigning tables

As a guest, I totally prefer assigned tables! People don't usually seat themselves efficiently, and there'd be a higher chance that someone will end up at a table with people they don't know if all other tables fill up. By having assigned tables, guests don't have to worry about rushing to the reception area to try to grab a good seat before everyone else gets there first.

Is it okay to move to another table with assigned seating? It does sound best to do assigned seating, at least to start with.

Assign tables, adults can figure seats out pretty well one they have the table assigned.

Assigned seating always. I have awful social anxiety unless I'm around people I know and finding my own seating sounds like a personal nightmare

Other than visiting briefly when another guest is up dancing or something, no. Other than something like that, your table is your table.

OP, it is always, always better to have assigned tables or seats. Open seating is a nightmare of people saving seats for others, racing for tables, and generally making guests uncomfortable which is the opposite of what you want as a host.
