    City, state? Religious/non-religious?

Sorry, but sounds like you'll have to call local officiants and ask.

Oh, and it's unlikely to find one ASL fluent- but you can probably hire a translator as well.

Why not just hire an interpreter/translator?

Because it's easier to have an officiant that signs to the couple and interpreters to sign for the congregation. Besides, it'd be full of people up there between the couple and the bridal party and the officiant. Also, it would be cheaper this way.

PS-Translators are for the written word interpreters are for the spoken word.

There are- but most church officiants won't do weddings at places other than their church, or for non-members of their church.

Marie- I think you have options- and hope she can find someone. I'll admit- it's not a world I know much about.

I'm sure there are some sort of support groups/society or something that is local you could contact. They may know of someone who is, or would be willing to get licensed to perform ceremonies.

Without knowing which city you're in, my suggestion would be to call your local School for the Deaf or a nearby college with an ASL program. They will generally have a list of students that can serve as interpreters. Best of luck to you!

Sorry, its in Stevenson, wa. Anyone on Vancouver,wa or portland,or will work. I do not want interpreters, they screwed up at my brothers wedding and family was very upset.

Just an idea.... try to go to www.decido.com

click on officiant on the left side, put in your city and state... You will get a list... if you see one that you would like to contact you, click on their name/picture, then hit the free price quote... Then it pulls up the survey on what to answer about your day, put in your budget, size of event, and it has notes for you to type " Looking for ASL fluent".... and leave the "Also request quotes from competing Officiants" box checked.I didn't have that special of a request, but I did have 5 people contact me within 2 days... maybe someone will send you a lead?

    Good luck!

It also lets you ask for quotes of all other things - hair, make-up, limo, etc...

Hayley- thanks but I don't have the time to get turned down 200 times before I find ones

I am also asking the deaf community for help as well but would still appreciate comments and suggestions!!!

No.. I don't think you went to the site and looked at it.... put in your city, search over the names... just ask one for a quote, leave "let other's contact me" check marked and They will Email You. You don't need to try to contact 200 people. At least check it out.

I know this is a year late, but there are 2 interpreters who are certified interpreters and fluent in ASL who can also officiate your wedding, legally, in NYC. We are new, we just got certified to do this and have experience with weddings. go to ASLwedding.blogspot.com
