Asking Your Friends to be Bridesmaids

Simone, on May 11, 2018 at 7:31 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 13
Hi fellow brides-to-be! I'm wondering how you all asked your girlfriends to be in the wedding party. I'm not into the over the top or cheesy stuff (that scene in Bridesmaids with the invitation with a live dove inside comes to mind, lol!) However, all of the ladies that I want to invite live in other states, so I can't just ask them face to face. I'm thinking about sending cards with personal messages and maybe a little trinket or token of our friendship.... (we are getting married at the Bronx Zoo, so there a lot of cute animal themed ideas out there). What do you think? How did you do it? Thanks!

I printed off a page with pictures of myself and the bridesmaid-to-be, a really pretty script "Will you be my bridesmaid?" on the page, and then got some cards at Hobby Lobby that say "I can't say 'I do' without you" and wrote a nice note in there. I mailed mine as well, so I bought one girl a cute mug with her first initial on it, one girl a picture frame, etc. and sent it all to them! Simple and inexpensive, but they seemed to appreciate it.

I know this isn't going to help you, but my BMs a live abroad.
I opened a group chat with them and said "Y'all gonna be bridesmaids, yea?"
    They all loved it 😂

It's not at all fancy, but I just called them up and asked. Then again, all 7 already knew I was planning to have them as bridespersons so the call was not so much "Will you be my bridesmaid?" as it was "OMG IT'S HAPPENING! Are you still in?"

I think calling is actually very personal these days and is a great, simple way to do it. I have seen some posts from people who sent something in the mail but then got worried when they didn’t hear anything. Some may have gotten lost or more likely the recipient wasn’t sure that they wanted to say yes and since it was by mail they just weren’t responding. So it’s just a chance you take with mail. I feel like calling is more personal but that’s just me! I don’t have bms so can’t give any personal experience.

I just texted them. I then followed it up after they said yes with a little box of goodies and a thank you card.

Mine are also all out of state. I sent them a box from etsy with some all natural lip balm, moisturizer, candle, and bath tea. I know that's the kind of stuff they like, and I'm sort of too awkward to ask over the phone😊

What I did was type in their name on google asking them to be my bridesmaid in hopes that a bridesmaid proposal with their name will pop up and surely it did!

After I found them all I sent them to my girls individuallySmiley smile

I know they all thought it was some sort of juicy gossip but NOPE it was a bridesmaid proposal.

They all we’re excited and thought it was super cute.

I didn't do anything to ask my bridesmaids, I just asked them and my cousin who lives out of state I called her and asked her over the phone. I'm like you I'm not into the over the top bridesmaid proposals, I'm very laid back and for me I didn't want to spend all this money on a proposal box when it most likely won't get used or the stuff will get thrown out. I got a proposal box to be in my friends wedding and it was beautiful, great picture on instagram but that's it, it's collecting dust in a closet. But that's just me. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with a proposal box, it's a great idea. But for me I'm very laid back and think about practicality. At the end of the day there is no right or wrong way to ask someone to be in your bridal party, they will just be happy that you asked. Good Luck!!!
