So unfortunately, our officiant (FHs grandfather) had to have intense surgery recently, and be able to follow through with marrying us. We totally understand this, but we also need someone to do it! So we decided we would ask FHs dad. We have been looking for ways to include him in the wedding anyway, and this was just kind of perfect.
Backstory. At Christmas, FHs parents got him a really nice and expensive gift. They called us and said they were out of wrapping paper, and asked if we could bring them some. So we did. When we got there, they asked him if they could wrap this present because they were both tired of wrapping gifts. He did (with our own paper by the way). Then his mom took it, wrote his name on it, and handed it back. We all started laughing uncontrollably, but FH swore he would get them back.
Fast forward to today. We are going to ask dad today to be our officiant. We got a card, and in it asked for him to marry us. We didn't put any mention of dad, or his name in it. It's pretty vague. So we are going to ask him to read it, and ask him if it sounds alright. Then when he gives his approval, FH will take it back, write his name on the top of it, and give it back to him.
