Hi Everyone,
We got a good deal on a beachfront resort hotel for our wedding ceremony and reception in June (we booked for a Friday evening). The wedding venue, catering, etc. seems wonderful so far. The hotel block situation, on the other hand, is a total nightmare.
My parents and possibly a few others would like to stay at this hotel the night of the wedding; however, this hotel requires a two-night minimum for weekends in the summer and the rooms start at $300 per night (not including taxes or parking fees). We managed to negotiate a hotel block where our guests could get rooms for only 1 night, as long as they book through our block. Unfortunately, the hotel staff were unwilling to negotiate on a few other things; specifically, they refused to give us a courtesy block. If we don't fill at least 9 of the 10 rooms, we will be stuck with the bill.
What I'd like to know is how we can politely ask guests if they are willing to fork over 300+ bucks a night to stay in this hotel. Asking people about spending a lot of money is just an awkward conversation to have. I know that several of them probably would like to stay there the night of the wedding (mainly so they can drink a lot without driving) and I want them to have that option. However, I don't just want to book the block without any guarantee that it'll be filled.
Any suggestions?
