Asking friends/family for help

L. Thomson, on June 29, 2019 at 11:09 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 4
I am getting married next year. Recently, I've had friends and family ask how they can help and if they will have a role in the wedding/reception. Honestly, I have NO IDEA what roles I need to assign! I also feel guilty even asking people to do a "job" for our wedding when they should be there to enjoy it. However, I know deep down there is no way I can do everything and even the thought of how I'm going to get things done is giving me a panic attack. Help!

Aside from a more traditional wedding with ushers or greeters, flower girl, ring boy, possible officiant, dad taking you down the aisle and giving you away, toasts or speeches, you can have people be invited to play those roles or not.

Truthfully the best thing you can do for your guests is to not have them work and to enjoy the event and support you. I assume your family members have big hearts and want to be there for you and that's really nice.

Though if you're doing a diy wedding with florals and decorations, trusted family might be a good job for them. If you're in need of a DJ or clean up crew. Or if you're having a wedding shower or bridal shower or bachelorette party or rehearsal dinner.

Talk with your fiancee about what your ideal weddings would be like, what you want and what they want. It will help everything else fall into place and then assign things or delegate as needed.

But be wary too of too many cooks in the kitchen as it can cause drama and too many opinions may add more stress.

    No panic attacks allowed.

First decide if if you are doing a DIY wedding or hall that’s already decorated, say yes you might need help you just haven’t gotten your bearings. Yet and thank them for offering. Go over what you want look at venues and everything will fall into place download the wedding timeline and bridesmaids duties that should help you!

no stress this is a special beautiful time

A lot of it will be diy. I have the bridesmaids, groomsmen, ring bearer, flower girl, photographer and officiant. I'm having a Spice of Life ceremony and the family members involved have been picked. Not having a dj, father in law is playing music. Sister and I are doing the cake and cupcakes (we've done wedding cakes before). We are also smoking meat for the reception and I'm purchasing the sides.

We will need to decorate for the ceremony (minimal since it's outside) and the hotel space for the reception. Also need to get the food set up. Family say I need ushers, but honestly I don't know if we do. It's an informal, rustic wedding. I keep feeling like I'm forgetting something.

I totally feel ya. I asked friends for help in setting up because I needed it and I definitely felt bad since I wanted them to enjoy as a guest. At the end of the day they're all so happy to be a part of your celebration that helping you wouldn't put a damper on that because they love you.
But like other PPs said... Decide what you'd even need help on first.
