Asking friend to do hair

Private User, on December 18, 2013 at 11:51 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 4

Hey everyone! I got engaged in October, and wedding planning will start in full in January (we wanted to wait until after the holidays). The most we've done so far is pick our BMs/GM. One of FH's GM has a longtime girlfriend who is a professional hairstylist and does a fabulous job on formal updos. I want to ask her if she'll do my hair for the wedding. I plan to pay whatever her regular rate is for formal occasion styles (plus tip) if she agrees. I'd also want to do a hair trial with her -- she lives about two hours away from me, and I don't mind traveling to her for the trial. We plan to get married locally, so she would have to travel to do my hair for the actual event, but I think she would be here anyway to attend the wedding even if she didn't do my hair.

So my question is, how far in advance should I ask if she'll do my hair? Should I offer my own supplies (hair spray/curler/etc.) since she has to travel? Any advice is appreciated Smiley smile

If she is a professional she will have everything needed for the trial/day off. All you should provide is photos of hair styles you want her to try on you. One piece of advice I hope you consider is that although she is a girlfriend of a GM you still need to treat this as a vendor and be sure to sign a contract!

I'm glad you mentioned signing a contract -- I didn't even think people used them for wedding hair/makeup haha. Good to know! Smiley smile

If she is a professional than you should be good and she will probably treat you like a client.

Just FYI, a lot of places and vendors get booked up almost immediately following christmas for the following year because of all the proposals that happen around the new year and christmas and thanksgiving. Just wanted to give you a heads up Smiley smile

I was worried about that, CeCe! Luckily we're pretty flexible on the location so hopefully we won't run into any big problems. The date is flexible too, but we're looking at a two-month window (March-April 2015).
