Asking for a sneak peak? (e-pics)

ThatGirl, on July 20, 2018 at 10:37 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 10

So, we had our reshoot of our engagement photos yesterday. Reshoot because the first shoot was a disaster - the photographer brought his kids, and the pictures turned out terrible. We complained to the studio and got a re-do with a new photographer. (under the premise that if it didn't go well this time, we wanted our money back and out of the contract).

So now I am anxiously awaiting the photos... would it be in poor taste or against any "rules" to email the photographer and ask for a "sneak peak" at a couple of the shots to ease my nerves...? I have seen brides post sneak peaks before but am not clear on how they get them!

Thanks!

If you just had the re shoot yesterday I would wait a week or at least a few days before asking. They have to edit them and that is very time consuming.

Typically sneak peaks are at the discretion of the studio. Some studios do them immediately, and some of them wait a few weeks. I wouldn’t try to be patient and wait at least a week before asking to see anything.

I'd be patient and wait at least a week. Sneak peaks are at the discretion of the studio. They may not have even started editing your photos yet if they were just shot yesterday.

I would definitely wait at least a week.

Thanks all - wasn't planning on asking today already, just sooner than later... and didn't know if it was even ok to ask at all.

I would also give it more time. They might not have started editing your photos yet.

We didn’t get sneak peeks at all for the engagement photos or wedding photos. We had two separate photographers since we had a DW, but neither did sneak peeks.

Sneak peeks are always at the discretion of the photographer/business. If it's not stated in your contract that they deliver a sneak peek, I wouldn't expect one. That being said, I'm a photographer and I wouldn't mind if a couple asked for a sneak peek a few days after a session. I would think it means they enjoyed the session and can't wait to see photos :-) Sometimes I post sneak peeks, other times I don't, it depends how busy I am. It probably wouldn't hurt to follow up after a week or so just mentioning how much you enjoyed the session and you can't wait to see the photos and if they have any sneak peeks, you'd love to see them! What is the delivery timeframe for your photos? If it's only a couple of weeks, I'd just wait. If it's more like 4-8 weeks, it wouldn't hurt to ask, but don't be upset if they don't do sneak peeks.

Also, that first session sounds like a nightmare! I really hope you LOVE the "re-do" photos... This is why it's always sooo important to do an engagement session (I actually just wrote a blog post about that, haha)!
