Ask Dad to walk me down the aisle?

Selena, on December 21, 2017 at 8:49 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 12
Did any of you do anything special for your dad to ask him to walk you down the aisle? Or was it just a given? I want to try to do a little special something for him, or maybe I’m just overthinking?

I didn't even ask my dad to walk me down the aisle. It was just a known thing that that's what would be happening.
Maybe you can get hima picture frame with space for 2 photos. Put a photo of you and him in one space and a sweet note from you in the other. The note can say something about the second space being meant for a photo of you walking down the aisle together.

It was a known thing for us, not sure what your relationship with your dad is like but my dad pretty much called me and confirmed he was walking down with me, lol.

I am planning on gifting him a photo of us afterwards with the top part of my veil.

I have a step dad and he and I have a very close relationship, closer than even mine and my real mothers relationship. When I got engaged he already knew because my bf asked for permission. There are really cute father of the bride gifts on etsy. Just type father of the bride in the search a million things come up best part is etsy customizes everything. I'd look on there I think a gift for him is a great idea!

With your dad, it's kind of a given since it's tradition.

But if you're straying from that, like asking both your parents, or both your dad & stepdad, or an uncle or brother or other family friend, then I think it'd be special to ask them a certain way.

With my dad, we have a normal father/daughter relationship so it was expected / never discussed that he'd be walking me down the aisle. It was just done!

I love hearing stories about people's dads being so happy to do this. Mine is a physically abusive jerk so I never considered asking him but I wish I had that kind of relationship with a father figure.

My dad just assumed it was happening. I was actually thinking of walking with my FH since it’s a 2nd marriage for both of us & I don’t really feel like I’m property to be given. But it’s an important tradition to my dad & I’d rather respect him and our relationship than try to make a point. I don’t think I’ll be getting him any kind of gift though.

Traditionally for us, the couple actually meets at the door to the church and walks up together to symbolize they're both approaching marriage of their own free will . The dad walks the bride from the car door to the church door basically.

However, I specifically asked my father to walk me all the way down to the altar because of our relationship. Plus I love the idea of seeing my FH at the end of the aisle. I didn't do anything except ask him though.

I am having this issue now. See my dad is not my real dad, but the only father figure I have ever known. Him and I have a very strange and odd relationship. I am sort of nervous asking him, yet I feel I have too, because I wont know otherwise. Part of me wants just my mom to walk me down, but I am torn. I honestly wish I could help you, but I am stumped here as well. I go back and fourth. I mean sure normally it is "tradition", but I am also one who would say: "do whatever your heart desires. It is your wedding. You want to do something special. Get him a tie with the date on the back engraved, or whatever you feel your dad would love." That is 100% up to you. Not one person will ever have the same answer.
