Artificial Flowers

Brittany, on February 6, 2019 at 10:26 AM Posted in Planning 1 23

Hi everyone! So you may have seen my previous post about my florist quoting me $5,000 for flowers. I've met with a few other florist and they've quoted me around the same, or maybe $1000 or so less than my original quote. My mom brought up the question of having artificial flowers in some places instead of real flowers. What are your thoughts about this? Is it super obvious? This actually has me really thinking because I am super crafty and maybe I can create some of the things myself... I am thinking of flowers that people will not be close to in particular. For example, the ceremony arch and two stands that will have vases with flowers. Since no one will be near them, I am thinking artificial flowers would be perfect (see image below). I would keep real flowers for the bouquets/boutineers/centerpieces and anything else people would be up close to.

My question is, is it super obvious when people use artificial flowers? Are you using them? Doing a mix? Any thoughts? I'm trying to get a good idea before signing my quote/making a deposit! Thank you all!

I'm doing all artificial because as nice as real flowers look, they just aren't in my budget and I don't want a lot of dead flowers laying around after the wedding. I'd say if you are doing a semi casual wedding, artificial are fine. If you are doing a very formal, elegant wedding, go for the real flowers.

I wanted to use them but found they cost the same as me arranging real flowers if I bought them in bulk, so I used all real and did it myself! The only artificial I used was for the mens bouts because I wanted to get them done early, and I used 1 kind of the "real feel" flower in my bouquet (very costly, but I had them already). Picture of my bouquet below! It's 100% real other than the white/black flower (called anemone).

Husbands bout was fake using the same anemone flower thats in my bouquet and honestly in photos and in real life it looked totally fine. If you're up for it, I'd still look into using real flowers and greenery because the cost is less than the real looking fake flowers. Unless you're going for fake dollar store flowers, then yes I think those look pretty fake and would notice. But, as a guest I wouldn't care either way.

When my brother got married, they used artificial flowers from the dollar store, and up close you could tell, but in the pictures and from more than 2 feet away, they looked real. Plus, they have them hung on the wall with their other wedding items as a keepsake.

I'll be doing the same with my wedding, but any other flowers near guests, and for the flower girl, will be real.

Some brides here made incredible decor with faux flowers! I hope they post their pics & tips here.

What about non-floral centerpieces like lanterns (with or without greenery) or candles? That could save a ton. You could also do silk BM/groomsmen pieces or even make faux floral rings for the BMs to save money.

I looked into Artificial or the Sola Wood flowers and honestly the price wasnt that much different than real flowers.

Have you thought about getting a DIY package for your flowers? I did a combo package and my bouquets and bouts will all be pre-arranged, but then the rest of my flowers are coming in bulk for us to arrange with videos on different ideas of how to arrange them. I also went with one of those online sites instead of a local florist after researching the company and looking at their reviews and policies. I paid just under $1000 for 8 bouquets, 11 bouts, and then enough flowers for 15 centerpieces, 2 aisle markers, and 1 arch (bought during a 25% off sale). We're sitting down the Wed/Thurs before the wedding and having a flower party where all my aunts and FMIL have volunteered to help put together flowers, theyre more excited about it than me haha

Buying bulk flowers or prearranged flowers from Costco, etc. are often the same price as artificial flowers so I never really considered them. However I think the arch is a place you could use artificial and they wouldn’t be noticed. People really only interact with the centerpieces.

If you have the want and desire to spend a lot of time doing DIY then you can make some incredible arrangements using artificial flowers and greenery. I would watch tutorials on how to accomplish the look you want before committing. Artificial flowers vary a lot in quality and price, cheaper usually looks pretty artificial but if you get expensive ones when there’s a good sale that might be the way to go.

I am using Bloominous. Real flowers but you arrange them and put them together. Was way more cost effective.

We’re doing fake because I do t want to deal with real flowers. Our wedding is 1.5 hours away and it would be too much work to transport and keep alive in the summer. The fake flowers that are more realistic looking are not exactly cheap either, but much cheaper than the real thing because FH wanted exotic flowers like orchids. I won’t get really cheap fake flowers though, again, per his request. He really wanted real but had NO idea the cost

I’m doing artificial centerpieces. I’m sure they are obvious but for saving $100-$135 each I don’t even care

I used Enjoy Flowers. They dont have a lot of options for collections, but they worked for my colors. Ill have to report back with my experience after the wedding! So far, everything has been super simple and their customer service has been excellent even through all my questions!

We're doing all artificial! My FMIL is a florist and will help put them together and they look amazing. This is my bouquet in the store (so obviously not finished). Real touch flowers even feel like the real thing. And this way it will all be done months in advance! Didn't want the stress of putting flowers together the day before.

I agree and most people don't even remember how your centerpieces looked like.

I had a feeling that is where they were from. They totally look real. I am still debating if to use fake or real flowers or more like a mixture of them. The real ones are just so expensive.

We did fake because we got married on a cruise and couldn't bring real. Attached are pictures of my bouquet which I may be biased but it looks real to me! For the bridal bouquet and 3 smaller bridesmaid bouquets I paid $160 for all the flowers and supplies needed (wire cutters, ribbon etcs.) I didn't cheap out on the fake flowers though I made sure to buy ones that looked as real as possible. Artificial Flowers 4Artificial Flowers 5

Where did you purchase your flowers from? I've been pricing out flowers from Hobby Lobby, Michaels, amazon, saveoncrafts etc. but I'm still sitting around $3/4 a stem (even with 50% off). We'll have 25+ guest tables so I'm trying to find more wholesale/bulk options. I love the way your bouquet turned out and it has a lot of the same flowers I've been looking into myself. Any tips, advice is greatly appreciated! Thank you in advanced =)
