Arm Sculpting? Is it possible?

Cassandra, on March 11, 2020 at 11:05 AM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 15

Since my FH and I got engaged we have been pretty health conscious. We both workout regularly and we have a mostly healthy diet. I recently took my wedding dress in to get a quote for alterations and I love how well it fit and the progress I have seen in my back and lower belly BUT no matter how much cardio I do I have only seen a small amount of progress in my arms. I use to wrestle and lift weights so I understand my arms will never be "skinny" but is there a workout routine you have found to tone specifically your triceps? I have attached a photo of what I'm currently working with. Any help will be appreciated!!

So unfortunately there isn’t a way to spot train certain areas. “Tone” is just a simplistic way of saying building up muscle in an area while simultaneously losing fat so that muscle shows. Being in a calorie deficit is the only way to lose fat but it’s mostly based on genetics which areas of your body you’ll lose fat in first.

Kelly - Those damn genes! Like I said, I've seen progress everywhere else that matters so I guess I will keep crushing those workouts and limiting the wine! Thank you for your help! Smiley shame

Weights Weights Weights. They tone you up and also speed up your metabolism(the more muscle you have). Cardio can reduce fat pretty fast too, but it can result in loose areas.

I was, according to a health chart in the obese area and I was def on a healthy change journey losing weight eating right etc. I did spot train or find areas of my body to tone up on and for me it worked I wanted my bat wings to go away and so i did a lot of triceps and a bit of bicep exercises. it did take a while, but it worked.

I know it’s so frustrating! Especially when there’s so many gimmicks and false promises out there with people trying to sell products. But everyone’s body is different. That’s amazing that you’ve seen progress though! Remember that you will look beautiful no matter what on your wedding day!

Just keep up what you’re doing! Weight training and making healthy food choices. If you want to focus on triceps, add in more weighted tricep exercises.

I agree with PPs. Keep doing what you're doing and make sure you do upper body with weights 1 or 2 times every week (with rest in between). Don't only focus on tricepts. The best definition comes from weight training all muscles. Unfortunately you can't make your body only slim in your arms, but you can build them muscles up!!

Make sure you’ve got a well rounded weight routine for your arms. You want to be working the smaller muscles as well to give you more definition in your arm area.

Thank you everyone! I have been doing the BodyBoss Method for a minute now and it is a full body routine with some weights. I will add in some extra lifting sessions but overall keep on keeping on!

The app Tone it Up is super helpful, you can target specific muscles with their workouts!

I would say getting in adequate protein and lifting weights would be the best way to start seeing some more toning. I carry lots of weight in my back/shoulders/arms (legit felt like a football player growing up), but once I focused on building muscle in those areas instead of just losing that's when I finally was happy with what I looked like. As ladies we can't get 'big and bulky' like there are fears of (thank you hormones), but building muscle helps get that toned look!

Also just make sure you are getting 1 g/ lb of body weight of protein (ex. I am 150 lbs so I eat 150 g of protein a day)! That is going to be a HUGE factor for getting the toned look.

Women generally are stronger in lower body and men stronger in upper body. That's just an observation after training females for the last 10 years of my PT life.

You need to do more compound exercises which works on your entire arms and upper body instead of directly working on your triceps.

Do lots of vertical and horizontal push and pull such as push ups, pull ups, shoulder press, seated row, lat pulldown, lateral raise, etc.

    I hope that helped.

    You're welcome Smiley smile

one more thing, another way of having toned, slim and athletic arms is to reduce fat. sometimes we do have good muscles but it is covered by fat. so maybe that is something you can consider.
