Are you wearing veil? If so, will you bustle it?

Cheryl, on July 21, 2020 at 6:23 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 14

I'm planning to wear a cathedral length veil that my mom is going to make for me. I'm planning to bustle it for pictures/dinner/first dance. My mom is going to spend a lot of time making it and it's very special to me that she is doing that, so I don't want to just wear it for an hour or two and them chuck it. Has anyone else done this or planning to do it with your veil?

I didn't bustle my veil nor have I ever seen it done. It honestly doesn't feel great in your hair, especially if it's long (aka heavy) enough to need to be bustled. I can also see myself sitting on it and that doesn't seem like fun.

I skipped wearing a veil in general but I don’t usually see people wear a veil during the reception.

I have a cathedral-length veil and I plan on taking it off after the ceremony/pictures and swapping in a hair comb accessory. Didn't even know they could be bustled!

I’m wearing a simple birdcage and roses this time. But for my first wedding I wore a cathedral length veil. But never thought of bustling it. Instead, I wanted it off by the reception so that I was “free” to mingle, hug and party without it in the way. However it’s a sweet idea since the veil is sentimental to you.

I didn’t know you could, but I found a video that is a diy bustle so you don’t have to alter your veil

Wow, I didn’t even know this was a thing! I’m wearing a chapel length veil for the ceremony, but definitely planning on ditching it right after!

I’m wearing a cathedral length veil as well but I’m taking it out for the reception. I didn’t know a veil could be bustled. But I don’t want to wear one all day.

Normally people take them off for the reception. There are some issues related with keeping it on - mainly that if it gets tugged on, your whole hairstyle could fall apart.

Yep. Bustling a veil is a real thing. LOL. I don't plan to wear mine for the entire reception either, but for now, I'm thinking our first dance won't be until after dinner so I'd like to have my veil on at least through our first dance. With it bustled, I think it will be pretty simple to keep from sitting on it and it will only be for a little while. I just don't want my mom putting in all that work and it's only on for the ceremony.

I know it pretty customary to take them off for the reception, but I'd like to keep mine on for a bit longer. Bustling the veil makes that a bit easier to do.

Thanks! At this point, I'm thinking we'll have our first dance after dinner (that timing could change though) and I definitely want the veil on during our dance. If I bustle it, it will obviously be shorter and I'm thinking, far more manageable. I may take it off after the dances which is when I'll be mingling and partying. I just want to wear it for as long as I can to honor the work that I know my mom will put into making the veil.

Yeah that makes sense. I think it's so special that she is able to make the veil for you, and I'm sure it will be beautiful. This is something to keep and pass down in the family for sure.

Unfortunately, I have no one to pass it down to. I only have a son and he's married already, so I can't even pass it to his wife. Oh well. It will still be nice to have knowing that my mom made it for me.
