Are veils going out of style?

Nicole, on May 16, 2017 at 9:49 AM

Last night I was looking for veil inspirations so I was scrolling through some wedding venues instagrams. I was surprised that about 80% of the brides weren't wearing a veil. Are veils becoming less and less popular?

I think the only 2 times I've been to a wedding where the bride didn't wear a veil was for a civil ceremony. All the church weddings I've been to the bride wore a veil for the ceremony at least, but not so much at the reception.

I had one for my first marriage and hated it because it got yanked I so much when someone hugged me. This time I refused one when I went dress shopping and got a pretty headband type thing instead

I'm not wearing one. It wouldn't work with the look I'm going for.

I am not sure what I want. Culture wise the blusher/bird cage style along with a back veil was the expectation.

I've always wanted to wear one. It completes my bridal look. I only plan to wear it for the ceremony and formal pictures though. Then my hair is re-done for the reception and I'll have a pretty comb.

I am, and always will be, Team Veil!!! I'd say it's about 50/50 with my group of friends wearing a veil versus wearing a flower crown or some other detailed hairpiece. What I haven't seen a single friend do, however, is have a veil with a blusher.

I actually had to have my fingertip length veil custom-made by my dress shop so it had a blusher--it's something I've always loved from my mom's wedding photos, and I think it'll give my Dad and I a nice moment to connect during the ceremony. I'm not wearing it for the reception or photos, just the ceremony, but it was important enough to me to make it a line item in our budget!

I am not wearing a veil - neither is my friend who is also getting married soon.

Not personally a fan of the veils, but i think everyone should do whatever goes with their personal style!

I'm not wearing one for my wedding, but I do have a pretty long train and my dress is quite detailed, so I don't feel like I need one. They're not really for me. I will, however, have a jewel comb in my hair as an accessory.

I'm only warring mine for the ceremony, but if it did not have sentimental value I would have decided no veil. My dress has a lovely back and it's a shame it will be covered up in any way.

I'm wearing one because I always imagined myself wearing it. What I wear on wedding day is way less about what's in style and more about what makes me feel like a beautiful bride.

For me, the veil is what makes the whole look feel "bridal." Otherwise, its just a pretty white dress.

I have a veil, I still feel that a lot of brides wear them; but I just think that as so many other wedding 'traditions' are optional these days...so is the veil.

Only reason I didn't wear one was it was out budget. I think veils are always beautiful

I'm wearing a single layer veil. I certainly think this is one thing that (hopefully) will never go out of style. It makes the look so much more "bridal", in my opinion. I'll be taking mine off for the reception, but I still love the idea of it!
