Are ushers still a thing?

I'm very early in planning, but I've had this on my mind for awhile. I honestly have been to very few formal weddings. Do people typically have ushers? The ceremony isn't seated, but I am planning on having close family fill the first two rows. I'm thinking they could also help our several elderly guests with the huge staircase at our venue. ETA: No assigned seats, not no seating available, my bad!

Usually the groomsmen do this--but I was in a wedding where the bride and groom wanted to include a few more friends who were not groomsmen, so they asked two other men to be ushers. It is nice to have ushers who will greet and escort guests, even without the "pick a side" thing, but not absolutely necessary.

My brother and stepbrother will be ours. My other siblings are included (maid of honor and ring bearer) so I wanted to include them too

If you want them, have them, but again, I rarely see dedicated ushers; usually the groomsmen or venue staff does that. The only assigned seating should be the front rows for immediate family.

I'm definitely having ushers. Last summer we went to a wedding and they wanted the Bride and grooms side separate but they didn't have ushers and they didn't tell the groomsmen they were in charge of doing it so it ended up being a lot of confused guests. Plus it's a way of having a few more people included in the wedding.
