FH has a sister and I have a brother, so we're going to dance with our siblings before opening the dance floor midway through the song.

Hey Lisa! In this case, that can be done, or a close relative like and aunt or a grandmother who would have been a maternal figure. Also, if FH has a sister I agree that your sibling is a great option as well!

Does he have a sister or an aunt that he's close to? He can dance with them or just skip it completely.

My FH mother and father have both passed. So instead I will dance with my dad while he dances with my mom at the same time. (He only has brothers and aunts aren't that close)

I've never even heard of a mother/son dance. I've only ever seen father/daughter. We didn't do any of that because my parents are deceased. We just did our own first dance and that is it. One cool thing we did at my first wedding was a "generations" dance where the couple that has been married the longest danced with my then husband and I. I danced with a man that had been married for 50 years and my ex danced with his wife.

Surprisingly I've only seen a mother/son dance at two weddings, personally we're skipping it just because FH doesn't love to dance and we don't want too many special dances and toasts.

You guys could skip it or your fiance could ask another important woman in his life to dance with him, but only if he wants to! This should be up to him Smiley smile

My friend recently got married after his mom passed away and he danced with his grandma while a slide show was played off to the side with beautiful pictures of him and his mom growing up. If your FH has any female mother type figures he could dance with one of them or you could skip it entirely.

Like other suggestions, a close family relative, maybe his FMIL. There are options just have to see if he would dance with one of them, if not then skip it.

My dad passed away when I was really young so my brother is the one walking me down the aisle and we're doing a sister/brother dance. Like others have said, any maternal figures will do. Aunts, grandmothers, sisters.

Yes, totally fine! This is one area where it's not an etiquette issue, but about expressing family relationships and sharing a moment with someone you love. i've seen dances with stepmothers, grandmothers, aunts, sisters etc.

I think it'd be lovely for him to dance with your mom if that's what he'd like to do! You can call it "family dance" rather than mother/son, father/daughter.

    Don't have it at all.

My cousin was more or less raised by our aunt after his mom needed a mental health decade after his father died. He danced with her for the first dance and it was sweet (except for his mother who felt slighted and cried in a corner).
