Are Sandals resorts safe?

Rebecca, on October 19, 2021 at 7:44 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 5

Researching honeymoon spots...

I started off by looking at Sandals Jamaica and then I made the mistake of looking up the crime levels there. Freaked me out pretty bad! Not sure if the Sandals resorts were included with this crime, but it sounded pretty bad there.

Recently starting looking at the Sandals resort in St. Lucia. It seems a little safer compared to Jamaica. Has anyone ever been to the Sandals resort? How safe and comfortable did you feel?

I've been to Sandals in both Jamaica (Ocho Rios) and St. Lucia (Grande St. Lucian). We felt very safe on both properties. In Jamaica, we had similar concerns about safety, so chose to stay on the property for the entire week and only left once for a guided hike excursion. In St. Lucia we would have felt more comfortable leaving, but at the time guests were mandated to stay on the property unless on a COVID-approved excursion (we did leave for two excursions - a hike and a sunset cruise). Short answer, yes I find Sandals resorts to be incredibly safe, but obviously crime can happen anywhere. If I had to recommend one - go to St. Lucia - it was AMAZING!!! Seriously the most beautiful place I've ever seen in real life.

I’ve never been to Sandals but I’ve gone to the Half Moon Bay resort in Montego Bay quite a few times. Most of Jamaica has crime, but inside the resorts it’s okay. I wouldn’t recommend taking any valuables with you if you leave the resort and I will warn you that street vendors are quite aggressive with their sales tactics (outside the resorts) and will literally put things in your bag and try to ask for money lol. But the resorts have big walls around them and the beaches are private for each resort. You will be totally safe if you plan to stay in the resort and just relax.

I’ve stayed at sandals Barbados and would highly recommend it if you’re looking for luxury and basically everything included on the resort. We only went off the resort once to enjoy local food and music. Everything was fabulous.

Yes, I have stayed here for a week with my husband and kids. I have felt completely safe. There was not problem during our stay. The staff was courteous, and the chauffeurs too were quite gentle and helpful.

It may help to check the State Department or other government sources before traveling to various places. Those counts are with respect to over a million visitors per year. A personal safety device may be helpful in all travel -- but probably only a debilitating sound device would be allowed in many places. The sound-based ones make over 120DB level of sound.
