Are plastic cups tacky at the reception?

Amanda, on January 8, 2018 at 2:36 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 16

We're thinking about having plastic cups for people to drink non alcoholic drinks out of at the reception? All the other dinnerware/ barware is glass. We wanted a personalized vibe at the reception and I really like these cups but are they tacky/ do they fit?

Thanks Smiley heart

Omg that's brilliant! No way that s a great idea. What is your theme for your reception? I could give you more input on the over all look of the plastic cups with your theme

We're doing a New Years theme. Like black and gold. It's semi formal. We also have coozies, napkins, coasters, and cute straws.

You’re gonna be left with soooo many of these at the end of your reception when no one takes them home.

Personally, I’d think it was weird if everyone drinking had glass but I got a plastic cup because I wanted a soda.

I feel like they might just be a waste of money. If the venue has glassware why buy more? I also agree with Sarah, it seems weird to have the people who do not want to not drink have a plastic cup.

I feel like these are more appropriate for a RD or an after party, not the wedding itself.

I wouldn't waste my money on something like this, especially because you'll be stuck with all of them after the reception. Most people won't take them home.

These seem extremely wasteful and environmentally unfriendly. I also with PPs that you will have a bunch left over at the end of the night. Also, how much liquid do they hold? If regular glasses are available for alcohol and I was having a soda I'd be annoyed to be drinking it out of a small plastic glass that I need to keep refilling, I'd probably just get a "real" glass instead.

My feeling as well, it's almost calling out who's drinking alcohol and who's
not. If all the cocktail hour drinks were served in this cup it would be one thing. But I think there are other ways to better personalize your night.

I wouldn't suggest it is a good idea to treat non alcohol drinkers differently. What would be a reason to do so?

I think they're cute if you can swing it. Why not use them as beer cups too?

I wouldn't waste my money on something people are just going to throw away. Even a personalized coaster would be more likely to be taken home as a keepsake.

It wasn't a way to call out people drinking soda haha I just thought since wine drinkers will get a personalized napkin, beer drinkers get a coozie , and the signature drink gets a cute straw I was just trying to get something personal for people who weren't partaking in alcohol haha but I can see why it would look that way.

None of that is going to get taken by more than 5 guests. If you’re okay with having a bunch of leftovers, it’s a nice personal touch.

You'll definitely be taking a lot of these home - people are way less likely to bring home a keepsake of your wedding if it has all the personal details on it.
