Are photo booths worth it?

Francine, on April 11, 2021 at 11:55 AM Posted in Planning 0 20
I'm thinking about getting a photo booth. They are pricey though. So I'm wondering if it's worth the money. Also, how long should I rent one for if I do get one?

I’m having an open air photo booth. I think it captures silly moments and different groups together that the photographer(s) may miss. Every wedding I’ve been to it has been a hit. If it’s per hour I’d have it for a couple hours toward the end.

    Hello Francine.

It's a know your crowd situation. At some weddings I've been to, it has been a huge succes, at other weddings, it wasn't used.
I personally don't like photobooths at a wedding reception but there's nothing wrong with the idea of renting one if you're sure most of your guests will love it and will actually use it. Because would you want to rent one for , say, only 5-6 people?
If you're not having an unppluged reception, your guests could still take photos with their own device.
As an alternative you can have a "selfie station".

Selfie Station? Hmmm, I've never heard of that. I'm going to look that up. Thank you for the advice!

"long should I rent one for if I do get one?" : For the after-dinner portion of the reception, people start dancing, mingling. I don't think it will be used before.

This is an idea I found on WW, on another thread about photobooths but I've never seen that at a wedding to be honest 😀.

However, this idea makes sense in my opinion.

We had a photo booth and our guests loved it. I believe every single guest used it. I also really enjoy photo booths at weddings. We had our photo booth for our entire reception. Our DJ provided it.

It's a know your crowd thing. Some people love them while others don't use them at all. I've never seen one at a wedding and I don't seek them out at the mall or fairs either. For most of the people we know, selfies are the go-to instead so it would be a waste of money.

So I was absolutely against having one. At the end of the night I always see pictures left everywhere and I know I tend to just discard them anyway. But with current regulations I went with a 360 photo booth (which is more like mini videos) because it was different and something for people to do.

We're having the magic mirror. I've seen it at parties and weddings before and its worked well. I think it will go over well at my wedding and looking forward to it. We have it booked for 4 hours which is more than enough time during dinner and the rest of the reception to be utilized.

My friend got married in 2017 and she had a selfie station. I thought it was pretty ridiculous at first, but it was a huge hit! I plan on doing it for our wedding now. Just buy some cute props, find a fun space at the venue, and let the guests take care of the rest!

We don't have a photo booth as it's too expensive and probably unnecessary. All of the pictures will be downloaded to Google Drive and our guests could get their photos. Some of the shots will also be edited in a polaroid/vintage style (some Photoworks effects applied, etc), so there will be a wide variety of styles made by our photographer. The photo booth is fun, though, so if you like the idea then go for it, my friend had it at her wedding and it was nice.

We had a photo booth at our wedding and it was absolutely worth it. People had a blast and we got a ton of fun pictures. Our photographer built her own booth and it was included in the package we bought. If it hadn't worked out that way, we would have built one ourselves. We're pretty crafty and there are tons of tutorials available online.

Our DJ offers photobooth services with an attendant included to help print out the photos for our guests. The photostrips of our guests will be placed in a book with room to write and will double as our guest book. Ours will be open the same number of hours as our reception, 4 hours.

If you have a lot of kids going then I would say yes. It's a fun thing for them to do. It's also fun for the guests during cocktail hour. Don't spend a fortune on it, though. A regular one will do just fine.

We had an open air photo booth and loved it. We thought it was pretty reasonably priced. It came with the props and someone to work the booth.

The awesome thing about my venue is they have their own photobooth in-house, and it is a lot cheaper than going with an outside vendor. Every wedding I have been to, the photobooth has been a big hit! People especially love it because it gives them something away from the dancefloor to do!

It's been fun at every wedding I've been to and I'm definitely not against them. We just won't be having one because it's not in the budget and wasn't and absolute "must have" for us.

It’s not worth the price in my opinion especially since were living in a world of selfies. You can easily makeshift a photo booth for sooo much cheaper.
