Are menu cards really needed?

Shannon & Joseph, on September 21, 2014 at 8:54 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 17

I'm having a plated dinner and everyone will be served the same thing. Should I include a menu card on each table? Is it really necessary? Are you having them at your reception? Any advice would be helpful. Thanks!

I'm skipping them. I think it's one of those things where it is fine to have them, but acceptable to skip. With the centerpieces and place settings, I don't want my tables getting too crowded.

Tons of cute ideas on Pinterest! That way you could just do one sign and done!

Since everyone will be served the same thing you could just do one large menu like Michelle posted. That way guests will know what to expect.

No, menu cards are not required. In fact, it wasn't even something that was a 'thing' until more recently, meaning I've been to many, many weddings in my 41 years and I've never been to a wedding that used them. Even at my brother's wedding two years ago, and they were 30 yrs. old, and didn't have them.

If you're having a buffet, you can simply place menus in photo frames at each end of the buffet table. And for a plated dinner, people will figure out what the food is or worst case, can ask one of the servers Smiley smile

Thanks for the advice ladies! I think I'm going to opt not to have them. Thanks @Michelle for the cute pinterest idea.

I am awful lol. The way I see it is who cares if you know ahead of time or not. You're either going to eat it or you're not. Smiley smile

I agree, menus seems to be a new(ish) thing. I've only been to a few weddings where we were provided a menu.

We are only providing them because we want to make sure everyone has food allergy information. Many people in my family have Celiacs Disease, so nearly everything is gluten free, except one layer of the cake and the rolls on the table.

If that wasn't an issue, we would not have them.

Not required, but if you have a website, I would throw what will be served on there. I'm one of those people who likes knowing in advance what I will be eating lol Also, if someone has a special dietary restriction, they know whether or not to bring it to your attention, too.

I hope you don't have people with food allergies that can't tell what the food is and eat it then die. LMAO.. my brain always over-thinks everything. It would be nice to have at least one menu available in case people with food allergies need to see what things are.

You don't need them. I think this goes in the "it'd be nice to have, but not necessary" category. One big sign or a sign in the center of each table would be fine if you're really worried about it, but I don't think they will be missed.

Nope no need for them...but we are doing them anyways...menu card/thank you note to guests, info about how to share photos with us, an activity, and info about options to get us to kiss (other than clinking)

We are planning on serving shrimp for a surf/turf entree. We are adding on the RSVP cards for our guest to let us know if they have fish/shellfish allergies.

We were thinking to DIY the menu cards on the tables but this thread is having me reevaluate it. I like the sign idea better.

Not necessary, but our venue provided them so we had them.
