Are menu cards necessary?

Gina Marie, on April 4, 2017 at 12:02 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 10

I am having a sit down dinner and have been going back and forth with whether or not menu cards are necessary. What's the etiquette say?

Unless they will be ordering dinner at their seat, no.

I like the personal touch of menu cards but if you are looking to save money they aren't necessary. You can also do a large chalkboard or framed picture of the menu.

No. It's a nice feature to add to your table settings and gives your guests and idea of their options if the event is a plated dinner.

Not required unless they are ordering their dinner options at their seat.

Not required. We'll have stations, so we're going to have cards labeling the stations and have a few menus on the tables listing the stations and what's available, to make the process a little smoother.

They are not necessary - but if you are doing other table items, you might be able to incorporate them together. WWLynnie posted a pic of her menu cards that doubled as place cards. It was a pretty sweet idea.

Not necessary but I did them. I made them myself using fancy Word font (that matched our other signage, that I also DIY) and printed on to pearly card stock. I got an inexpensive corner punch tool to fancy them up a little so cost about $7 using Michaels coupons for cardstock and corner punch!

I made an insert with the full menu to put into my invitations so that my guests can see the details before making a decision. My RSVP cards had very little room for details. For instance- The steak we are serving comes with grilled mushrooms and onions. The RSVP just says flat iron steak. Not everyone will like the mushrooms. I would hate for someone to choose something and not realize exactly what they are getting.
