Are engagement pictures necessary?

Nikki, on November 6, 2017 at 10:49 AM

We got engaged months ago and never planned to do engagement photos. Our save the dates don't have a photo on them. Do I need them for anything else or is it just a personal preference to have them?

No, they aren't necessary...but I'm personally glad we did them. We're bad at taking pictures of us, so it was nice to get some good pictures of us.

Not at all necessary, but it was nice to have a chance to work with our photographer before the wedding.

Engagement photos are not a must, I will say that I regretted not having them after my first wedding (until everything fell apart and then that was one less thing to burn later).

This time, they were included with my photo package and I LOVE them.

No they aren't. They're nice to have though on your wedding website (if you have one) and at the bridal shower

Totally not necessary but nice to have if you like having pro looking photos of you and your FS. We don't have a photographer yet so we asked a friend that we know is a really great amateur photographer. Sad thing is we spent about 3 hours on the beach taking pics and when we started getting pics back we found that in most of them our eyes were closed which sucked. So we're going to take more in March when FHs BM and his girlfriend are coming to visit and have the girlfriend who is actually a pro take pics for us (we're obviously going to pay her just like we paid our friend the first time).

Not necessary but it is really nice to have! Our package came with a 30mins engagement shoot and 40 edited photos. They came out beautiful and I love that we were able to experience that and have something to look back on "before" the marriage. :-)

Nah, we skipped ours. but i get the idea of getting to know your photographer if that's something you want to do. we met with our photog a few times so i was comfortable going into the big day with her. i didn't feel like i needed any more photos of myself.

Nothing is truly necessary, aside from you, your love, and the officiant--and if you're having guests, food and a comfortable environment for them!

I'm on the fence personally. I kind of would like some professional shots of us locally (we are having a destination wedding) but I wouldn't be upset if we didn't. So for me it's a nice to have not a must.

We skipped them, no need for the extra expense.

We are skipping a lot of the "traditional" expense items as they are not necessary for our lifestyle. The pomp and circumstance that a number of people want, we just would rather not stress about. This was one of those things. We have been together for years and long engagement, so no need.

I decided not to get them. I dont feel like Im missing much because We have lots of pics together already so instead we are doing a shoot after the wedding in a couple different locations so we can enjoy the actual wedding day since it comes with the photography package. But if you have the money in the budget why not? Its fun. I figure I'm gonna do boudoir photos and maybe one day pregnancy and/or anniversary photos. So I'm good with skipping engagement pics

It's definitely not a necessity. We almost skipped ours but it was included with the package, so I was just going to have the time added to our "trash the dress" photo session. Our photographer made a good point though, it will give us a chance to work together before the wedding. I liked that because, I've never done a photo shoot before, so some "experience" before the big day wouldn't be a bad thing. Also, I plan on doing my own makeup for the wedding (because I don't wear much and I've hated every trial so far). Everyone says that you need makeup for pictures or you look washed out. So...the engagement photos will let me see if my makeup job is sufficient. Just a couple reasons it might be a good idea, but not a necessity!

I wouldn't have ever gotten them done if my photographer didn't include it!
