Are corsages and boutonnieres really necessary?

Must Love Cats, on October 29, 2016 at 6:15 PM Posted in Planning 0 16

From my understanding corsages should be given to the mothers and grandmothers. And boutonnieres to the fathers and grandfathers. My family is very traditional so I have a feeling I'll have to get them. I can see our moms and grandmas keeping them but not our dads or grandfathers. I guess I think it may be a waste of money. Did anyone feel that way? Are they necessary for a wedding?

No, but they are a nice touch and if you keep it simple, very cheap. We had a garden Rose for our boutonnières and it was only $10-15 each. Can't really remember.

I want to do something for my grandfather because it will make him feel special, and he needs it. Also, my grandma would love to be a little spoiled for the day since I'm the first granddaughter to not get knocked up and elope. My FH grandmother most likely expects it, and will probably expect a lot more than I will offer her. I don't think they are necessary, but I think it makes the family feel good.

Not necessary but I agree it's a nice touch and makes them feel special on your wedding day too.

We are using faux flowers. I already got my bouquet, bridesmaids bouquets and a toss bouquet. I never thought to think of getting corsages or boutonnieres. From using the same site if I wanted corsages it would be $9 a piece and boutonnieres $8 a piece.

Not necessary at all. Depends on what people prefer. My mum is helping pay for the wedding and wants them, so we'll have them.

We thought it would add a formal touch but we basically did it to make our families happy. Especially because we might suits instead of tuxs

I don't think they are necessary. Just looks nice. I find bouts to be too busy with the tie and pocket square all so close to each other. We're probably gonna skip them for the guys.

I'm torn between only having flowers for BP and flowers for the moms & my dad. FH'S dad is his best man so he'll get one. Still debating it in my mind.

I'm going without flowers for any member of the bridal party, parents, myself, and FH. I'm not doing a bouquet toss so it would be a waste of money, real or fake. Also, they'd only be in my hands for all of like 5 min walking up and back down the aisle so feels pointless in my situation. Plus my FH and I are very laid back and not going for much in the way of traditional. Just kinda doing our own thing and going to have some fun! We are the ones paying for it after all so might as well do what we makes us happy.

No. We are skipping them. Doing pocket squares for the guys and mom and grandmas don't care.
