Are children allowed at bridal shops?

Katie, on February 10, 2016 at 9:04 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 9

My five bridesmaids and I are going bridesmaid dress shopping next weekend. I sent out a reminder yesterday about the appointment times and my FSIL replied that she would be bringing her 9 month old daughter since her bf has to work. I personally have no issue with her bringing her daughter but I was wondering if the bridal shop might? I've never seen children in a bridal shop before so I don't know if it is common or not. She is honestly the most mellow child I know but I would feel so terrible if she is crying loudly while other brides are there trying to find their dress.

Thoughts?

You should obviously call the specific shops you are going to to double check, but most of the ones I went to did not allow children under I think 14 or 16 years of age. Larger chain stores like David's or Alfred Angelo may be different though...I mean, they carry FG dresses so I would think they would be OK with children.

It's not a common experience for me either, but I've never seen a bridal shop with a "no kids" sign or policy. ETA: Do what Summer says!

Call the shops and ask. The child is a baby, so wouldn't be running around grabbing things off shelves, but the crying could disrupt other bride's experience.

I'd probably just call the shops and ask.

My 4 year old niece came to one of my appointments and it was fine. We didn't call and check, but looking back we probably should have.

I would think they wouldn't have a problem with a 9 month old since she isn't walking yet and can't really get into any trouble.

It may depend on the shop, but I think they should be allowed in most.

My sister brought my baby niece on all of my dress shopping trips. She ranged in age from 6-9 months during this time. She was quiet and happy the whole time, but my sister also brought toys, neat snacks (most shops didn't allow any food or drink but made an exception for the baby), and nursed her to keep her happy. I would suggest not bringing a stroller into the shop because most of them are small. My sister brought her carrier and the infant seat if K was sleeping when we got to the shop. Also be careful with putting the baby on the floor because one shop had pins randomly dropped on the carpet.

I totally misread your post as 9 years rather than 9 months! Edited so I don't sound like an idiot.

My friend brought kids to David's Bridal before. One was like 2 and one was an infant. Obviously they don't want kids running around acting like donkies, but a baby shouldn't be bad.

A baby probably won't be that bad. But I'd be angry if someone brought a nosy kid to a shop while I was trying to dress shop!

Ok thank you for the advice! I'll give them a call and ask. =)
