Are Chair Covers Tacky!?

Lisa Marie, on October 30, 2019 at 10:22 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 35
Our venue provides the chairs for the reception and included in the package are chair covers & sashes in white, ivory or black. They have tons of colors to upgrade to if desired. They also provide chiavari chairs at a premium price per chair.

In effort to save on costs I’m thinking of using white chair covers & teal sashes. Is that tacky or outdated? Will anyone notice they aren’t chiavari!?

I’ve seen tons of posts about this in the past; looking for current thoughts.

Thank you!

I'm personally not a fan of chair covers so I do find them tacky, but then again I'm just not a fan of that style altogether. I really think it depends on what style you're going for, but I definitely don't think anyone would notice (or care) if you don't have chiavari chairs!

I think chair covers and sashes can be nice, depending on how you implement them. if they go with the overall feel and theme of your wedding, they can look nice! I like them better than ugly chairs that just totally clash. Ultimately I think you should do whatever you think would look best! Don't feel like you have to get the chiavari chairs because no one will notice or care that much. Here's some photos I found of chair covers and what they might look like with colored bows.

We are going for an Italy/Tuscan theme so I think the chiavari chairs would really finish the look. They are $10 each, luckily we are inviting 100 guests & not more. But $1000 for chairs is crazy!

I don't like the look of chair covers, I think it's outdated. But if you're choosing between that and, say, metal chairs, cover those bad boys up!

I personally like chair covers and will be doing them for our reception area. I can't stand the color of the banquet chairs our venue has they are like a rose and green color; they look awful. I am doing ivory chair covers with a gray sash. I think it really also depends on what your venue offers.

I think anything besides the basic venue are an upgrade. I've seen plain chairs be a complete eye sore. After that wedding, I called my planner to ensure we were having chair covers in our package.

I don’t care to much for baggy chair covers and sashes either but I can’t afford the upgrade. My venue allowed me to swap the baggy white covers and sashes for a colored spandex cover at no extra charge. Still not as nice as the chiavari chairs but better then my other options. I chose my secondary color so my bridesmaids won’t match the chairs lol don’t mind my son in the photo I just wanted a picture of the covers in person.

Chair covers aren't my favorite but my venue included chair covers with colored sashes for free. We didn't feel like chairs were where we wanted to spend extra money. While I prefer the look of chiviari chairs, thinking back to my wedding in July, the chairs are not something I remember lol. I think our sashes were gold? I forgot what we picked. It really depends on what you find important in terms of decor. For some, chairs are important. For others, like me, they aren't. There's no right or wrong answer.

Unless it's an astronomical cost, go with the chiavari chairs. They look SO much better and less "80's prom" to me. If you must go with chair covers, don't get bows or match them to the chairs so it's not an accent color.

This is actually the least tacky chair cover I've ever seen. I wish they all looked that decent.

Those actually look really nice!! Much better than the outdated white chair cover! Is this something your venue had available? Or did you have to buy/rent these yourself? Where do you get them?

I'm also struggling a bit with this. I hate the look of the white chair covers, but can't afford the chivari chairs, and hate the generic "conference room" look of the chairs as they are. This would be an almost perfect solution!!

I’m not a fan either. Outdated. At their chairs that bad? Or how much for the Chiavari upgrade?

I think this is a personal preference. However, I am personally not a fan of chair covers. I just think they tend to look very cheap.

I think it is personal preference. We are doing chair covers, but mostly because the normal chairs are metal and that would not be a great look for the wedding. It is my hope that people will be up dancing most of the night, and I don't want to pay a few extra dollars per person to upgrade the chairs. We are on a really tight budget so we made the chair covers work!

I would say no they aren't tacky specially if you get the same colors with a bow or nice tassels to go around it that will be beautiful

Thank you, I thought the same thing. My venue is providing them. Part of the package was the white with the sashes but like I said I didn’t like them and when I was in her office she had those purple spandex ones on her chairs, so I asked if they were available. She said yes I could swap them out but if I wanted sashes too, then it would be an up charge. And I didn’t like the sash so it worked out perfect! Just ask your venue if they have spandex chair covers as an option and if so, what colors are available. Good luck, Hope they have fun as an option for you.

I'm not a fan of chair covers but that doesn't mean is tacky is just my taste. They were the only options a while back and I still didn't like them but then that's just me. I do find some regions to still use this a lot while others is just forgotten all along. I think it depends on your style and of course budget if you are able to upgrade it.
