Are chair covers necessary?

Jordan, on December 20, 2017 at 2:23 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 31

We have a basic pole barn venue, we are doing no dinner, just drinking and dancing with a dessert bar and popcorn bar. Very laid back. Not seating for every person we have invited. Kind of cocktail inspired. We have linen table cloths. The chairs available for rent at our venue are gold, rusty folding chairs. Would you spend the extra money on chair covers in my situation?

I'd save the money on chair covers and spend more so you can offer more than dessert options if you're serving alcohol.

I wouldn't spend any money on chair covers, any extra money you should put towards making sure there are enough chairs for everyone to sit in, oh and food, food would be a good idea. I hope your wedding isn't during a meal time, people will be hangry!

Save the money and spend on something else. Chair covers are not necessary, just an added enhancement.

You mentioned you are not doing a dinner, is your wedding during a "meal time"?

We are having a late ceremony, 8pm. Well after dinner time, and we are putting that on the invitations as well. The question was about chair covers not about food options. Thanks

I wouldn't do covers, there's so much more you could put that money towards.

Why do you need linen table cloths in a barn? That seems a little silly to me to go to a barn and see high end linens and not get food.

Skip the chair covers and put the money towards heavier food for your guest.

If I attended a dessert reception with no savory options for food and their were chair covers, I’d side-eye the priorities there. Even at 8pm, which is when H and I get dinner on date nights.

No yo chair covers but you have to serve more than dessert and alcohol. Especially since you’re serving alcohol, you need to provide food

Please serve some real food, even if it's just hors d'oeuvres. I'd be very upset if I ate dinner at 6, then went out drinking and didn't have anything substantial to snack on.

People need snacks! Especially when there is alcohol involved. Desserts isn't really enough. You should strongly consider having some savory snack options.

I would save on the chair covers, and invest in some heavy hors d'oeuvers if you're having alcohol.

I personally am a hungry drunk, and while I love sweets, I'd need something more substantial than sweets for sure.

How will you decide who's lucky enough to get a seat? What about elderly guests or guests who can't stand that you may not be aware of?

I can't stand very long in heels and i'd be pissed if i couldn't sit down.

I have to agree with literally everything @HulaHoop said. If you have extra money put it towards the guest experience. No one will remember chair cover. People will remember not being served food.

Chair covers are dated, I'd also put the money towards something else. Assuming guests are driving, please provide more than dessert to soak up the alcohol. Also, are you making them all stand during toasts? Assuming you're still having toasts without dinner.

I'd skip the chair covers. Maybe the fact that the chairs are gold will help to hide the rust.

I'd spend extra money on food in your situation, over chair covers, because, to answer your question, chair covers are not necessary. But food is.
