ARE BUSTLES SUPPOSE TO LOOK THIS AWKWARD?? *UPDATE*

Rynni D., on May 8, 2014 at 9:37 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 19

Original post:

I have searched all over Google looking for a fit & flare bustled gown that doesn't look weird. I've just had my alterations appointment with a very talented and seasoned seamstress, I have complete confidence in her skills. However, is it just me or the look of bustles are just plain ugly?

*UPDATE*

I picked up my gown yesterday & the bustle looks amazing, still on the awkward side but not nearly as ugly as I initially thought. I have a very talented seamstress! The lesson is bustles are weird but necessary. Hope this helps anyone in my position. I posted a before and after.

Yea, they do look a little weird. On the plus side, I've never noticed them before I was planning my own wedding.

I think it looks ok - but then again I don't know much about bustles. Definitely looks better in the second pic - I think we're just not used to seeing our dresses like that. It's gorgeous by the way!

I just had my cathedral train shortened into a sweep train...no bustle required! I think that looks lovely though!

If I knew the trouble bustles would be I would have opted for a different dress, seriously!

I wish I had gone with a ball gown and one without a train.

    Thank you, all!

@ adilou, do your research on bustles first. I did and it helped me understand the seamstress recommendations & decide which technique to use...French bustle v. American.

I'm pretty sure I am going to hate any bustle, but oh well. I get to see mine for the first time today... hoping it looks good! Yours looks very nice.

Thank you! What I have learned is to be vocal about what you want with EVERY vendor, do your research and keep an open mind. You might love your bustle like me Smiley smile

This looks a little weird to me but most bustles do however for a typical mermaid fit and flair gown the proper way or best look way to bustle it would be a ballroom bustle it looks like this photo, that way u cant see the under tule of your gown

Bustles always look funny, but I'm just rolling with it. I'm not holding up my gown all night and I think my bustle is actually really cute.

I just learned yesterday trying on my dress that there are 2 bustles they usually do, the first one is like your picture and it looks like a bottom of a bubble dress,I did not like ( it is where they tuck the material under versus just drawing it up. I will be opting for the one that they just draw straight up bc it looks better with the dress I chose

I hate bustles, I think they're ugly and stupid looking. Personally, I would have just chopped off the train of my dress if my girls had let me *lol* But alas, I shall have a bustle for my dress. The seamstress is going to make the kind that flips under (as opposed to being picked up by your butt), so it will look more like a bubble hem. I suppose it will have to do >.<

I tried on my dress this past weekend and when bustled, the back still touches the ground. I'm like WTH! The lady said that's how its supposed to be because if you lifted the dress much more, the front of the dress would start to lift.

    I like your bustle @Rustic!
