Are 2 Djs necessary?

Brittney, on November 9, 2020 at 7:47 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 20
Hey everyone!
I’m starting to look into DJs and the first person I spoke to really sold me on the idea of having two DJs. He rationalized it by explaining that they can switch on and off for bathroom breaks, food breaks, etc. He also said it gives one the priority of MC duties while the other mostly handles the music.
I’m wondering if I should be looking into two DJs and paying more for it, or if people have been fine with just one DJ doing MC duties as well

I had one and everything was perfectly fine. I don’t think the extra expense would be worth it.

I had 1 DJ, but he did have an assistant that helped him with a lot of stuff throughout the night.

No, the extra costs would not be worth it. He or she can have an assistant/apprentice.

1 is more than enough. If they need a potty break or to grab some food they loop some music for 5 minutes

Every dj we talked to only offers one. We aren't having an MC but they design playlists to be able to step away from their station as needed and still have music covered.

2 DJ's sounds like overkill. Typically, the DJ also MC's.

I would recommend finding a DJ that uses an assistant

1 DJ is more than enough. Even if the DJ has to use the bathroom they can always just play music, any professional DJ would have been through that situation lol

It sounds like the DJ was trying to get more money. 1x DJ is enough. Like others say, they can just run the music in the loop if they needed a break.

Thanks everyone for your input! I had a feeling the first guy was trying to talk me into paying more. He’s a fast talker who kind of negotiated with himself to make it seem like you’re getting an incredible price while sneaking in extras that weren’t asked for haha it was overwhelming. I walked away from the phone call thinking two DJs was a necessity, so thanks everyone for talking me out of that and saving me a ton of money!

That sounds like some good marketing on their end lol I have never noticed when the DJ goes to the bathroom probably because he can put a song on and not have to do anything... same with eating...
I would say no to 2!

We had two but it wasn’t any extra for us. The company we went through just had those two typically work together so it was no price difference than it would have been for one. And I’m so happy we had two! It just reassured me because one of them was able to talk with us and see when we were ready to have certain things start like garter and bouquet toss. It just reassured me that things were running smoothly since we were able to communicate more during the night. The nights does go by fast and I truly had no idea what time it was during any point during the night so I’m happy they were keeping everything running smoothly!

I definitely don't think that is at all necessary. I had one that did the ceremony room and the reception room. Everything turned just fine. When he goes to the bathroom or eats, he can easily queue up songs that play while he's absent. So saying that you need two for that reason, is not rationalizing anything, it's tying to get you to spend more money.

Not necessary at all to have 2 DJs. If the person that highly suggested it was the vendor, then it's most likely they pushed it so you'd spend more money. I agree with the PPs. Most DJs will have music already queued up for when they take breaks.

Some companies provide 2 DJs at no extra cost. If that's the case, then go for it! But if you would be spending extra on a second one....then skip it. It isn't worth the extra money spent.

I've never heard of two DJs or been to a wedding with two DJs. Unless you are planning a very large, elaborate, all day affair I think it would be unnecessary.

One DJ is certainly enough. If they are a skilled and experienced wedding DJ, then they already know how to arrange their music in order to allow for eating and using the restroom. Additionally, a wedding only requires a certain amount of actual MC’ing since it’s not like being at a club. So having 2 DJs is unnecessary.

Can't say I've heard of this one before. . .sounds a little pushy to get more money out of you. I'm sure one DJ is all that is needed, unless you are having a 12+ hour event that requires the DJ

I'm a wedding planner by trade and I've never heard of having two DJ's... Usually they have an assistant or they put the system on auto pilot while they eat or go to the bathroom

He must be a good salesmen lol. One DJ is enough. They can step away to eat or use the restroom while having music playing.
