April 2021 wedding Help!!!

Joara, on December 15, 2020 at 5:42 PM Posted in California Planning 1 8

Hello Brides,

I am stuck! We were originally April 2020 couple, then we moved to August 2020 (thinking this whole COVID thing would blow over by then). WE WERE WRONG!!!!

Now as we approach 2021, I am having to decide if we should keep our April 2021 date, cancel and/or opt for a smaller wedding (which is hard due to our 180+ guest list and also it would be so different from my "dream wedding")

After contacting our venue yesterday, we were told that we can continue with our date as long as we adhere to CA gathering guidelines.

-50 guests max

-all pre plated food

-all outdoor event (originally dinner was outside, dance floor and cake inside)

-smaller guest table size (from 10 guest p/table to 4 guests)

-timeline would completely change

We are sooooo hopeful but the unknown from now until April is stressful. Do we cancel and get refund? Do we cross our fingers and hope for the best? Or do we just confirm now a smaller wedding?

Any thought/insights are greatly appreciated!!

That’s hard. We got married in CA right before our region went into stay at home.
We ended up having 17 guests, masks, no dancing except for special dances, outdoors. We really loved having an intimate event but it was very far from our original vision.
I think that it’s hard to know how fast we’ll see the impact from the vaccine and it’s very possible that April will be too early to lift restrictions, especially in CA. If you don’t want to deal with any restrictions, I’d think end of 2021/2022 would be a safer bet.You could still wait a month or two to see really how the vaccine affects cases before making a decision but have a backup plan in case.

How does your venue already know what the guidelines in CA will be in April? Or are they saying you can reschedule if you don't meet those guidelines? I don't think things will be back to normal by then. I'm thinking more like July if I was a super optimistic person. I'm not even sure about my September wedding but I'm hopeful. It is just like how many people do you invite because you need to give people notice?

I personally would keep the date and downsize to 50 guests.

It depends on what you want. We had our minimony in October but my husband and I refuse to have our bigger wedding be under 50 people. Ours is scheduled for March 2021 & we decided that as long as we can have at least 60 guests then we would go forward with it. Right now our venue is allowing 80 & we can still have our buffet it's just that their workers will serve the food.

I am planning for May 2021 and probably looking at a similar situation. I am planning on going ahead with the limitations. I love the idea of an intimate wedding with the same elevation in decor. It really depends what matters to you most Smiley smile

Same with Courtney, we are a May 2021 date and we are proceeding. We have a 135 guest count and if it comes to cutting it down o 50 we will do that. However we are hoping for the best!

If I were in your shoes, I would cancel and get a refund. Vaccines should be out soon, and you can hopefully have your dream wedding next year (or hopefully later this year.) I say this as a COVID bride. The stress and anxiety of not knowing who will come, worrying that someone will get sick, etc. is pretty terrible. In hindsight, I would have handled things very differently.

We are in the same boat in New York Smiley sad unfortunately, it's not looking good. It's not looking the way we want to it to anyway. We will be getting married in our church either way and I am now thinking we will do a small ceremony with our family and bridal party and postpone the big celebration for later in the year *fingers crossed* If you want to get married you should probably consider doing so legally and celebrating later, you can still make your day special in April even if it's on a smaller scale. Good Luck!
