Appy Couple - recent experience?

Rebeccah, on January 26, 2018 at 5:33 PM Posted in Planning 0 16

Hi All,

Getting to the point of choosing our wedding website builder and am wondering if anyone has used Appy Couple recently? From these forums and others, I know the rollout of new features last summer was SUPER rough, but hoping they may have resolved these issues by now. Interested in hearing others thoughts! Or alternatively, if you decided against Appy Couple, what was the deciding factor for you?

I’ve never heard of that site before but I used Minted and I’m so happy we did! It was easy to use and a beautiful design that looks a little more professional and intricate than the knot!

I haven't heard of Appy Couple, either. I made our wedding website on zola.com and I love the look of it and the features it has (online RSVP, links to Google maps, etc.). I tried The Knot and Wedding Wire first but am really happy with Zola! I just like the forums on wedding wire!

We are using appy couple. We haven’t had any issues. Designing the website was easy and we love the design. So far is good, no issues with people rsvp-ing either.

We are using Appy couple for our website.

Good things: Overall I love the look that both the website and the app give. There are many options for templates and they translate well from website to app. The app looks sleek and is very easy to use,

Down sides: I don’t think anyone has used the app yet. I don’t know if it’s because guests don’t want to download it or what. Hopefully when we get closer guests will enjoy it. I hate to think we spent that money unnecessarily. Another downside is that some functions are not very intuitive when building the website. With that said, you get used to it as you go!

Great to know it seems like some of the issues have been worked out! I'm not sure if/how many people coming would want to use an app (more of our friends are the type to unplug!), but so far I haven't liked the designs on Weddingwire and the Knot designs won't render on my computer which makes me concerned about building out a whole site! Will have to look more into Zola - fiance doesn't want to have ANY kind of registry, but we'll see if we win that battle against the family...

For those using Appy Couple, are you using the RSVP/messaging functionality? To go green, we will not be sending any printed invitations. I've looked at Greenvelope as an invite option, but it would be nice to have an all-in one system (hence why we're looking at paid options!). We're also having multiple events that not all guests are invited to, and Appy Couple seems to have the best functionality for this. Would love to hear anyone's experience if they are using this part of the platform.

I hope this doesn't find you too late, but I wouldn't go with appy couple. It is riddled with issues.

Short version: tech support replies quickly but doesn't resolve issues and appy cards are horrible to send out and the email options aren't customizable and are ugly. Appy couple is specifically not designed for large weddings or weddings with multiple events with different guest lists (which is ironic because they sell it on the platform that it handles multiple events).

Long Version: The customer support always replies to your questions but never actually answers the question. If its simple things like you can't find a button they are very timely and helpful in answering but if you have a more technical problem they never answer! I had major issues with the private events option where theoretically you can add all your events i.e. bridal party with different guest lists and use the toggles to include people into the private events. These toggles kept resetting spontaneously and never worked! I asked for help multiple times and never got a solution. In the end I had to delete all the events that were for selected guests and now I can only have the events the ALL guests are invited to. Also when I was signing up for appy couple they sold me on how easy it is to use appy cards and send out emails- what they fail to tell you is the emails are not customizable at all and the appy cards can only be shared via social media or a link that you copy and paste which looks really shoddy if you are trying to send out save the date (no one wants to get a weird email with a link on it). In retrospect I would have used paperless post to send everything out via email and use minted or riley & grey for the website. Using appy couple and its technical issues have been a nightmare.

    Hope this helps someone/anyone!

I did end up going with Appy Couple and I'm not too unhappy with it! There are definitely some annoying quirks. However, I've been told I'm a VERY chill bride, so if you're going to be particular about how everything looks exactly, it might not be the best option.

    Pros:

    - Beautiful design options.

    - Multiple Events with visibility. I have not had the issue AM had with events toggling between private and public.

    - All-inclusive email and RSVP system. We will only be sending email invitations (all about saving those trees!) so having everything on one site with information and RSVPs was a big factor for us.

    - Price. The all-inclusive nature will end up saving us a lot of money in the long-run rather than if we had sent PaperlessPost invitations for each event of the weekend. There are other more "luxury" options out there which are probably more stable, but you get what you pay for.

    Cons:

-Reordering sections on a page can be finicky. Also I was CONVINCED that you couldn't rename header titles until I just found a help article about it. *facepalm*

-Limited formatting options in emails. For some reason, fonts that you can use elsewhere on the site are not allowed in emails?! The best you can do to spice up your invites are to italicize Times New Roman.

-I'm so confused about Appy Cards. How are these useful?!

-Adding RSVP widgets seems a bit complicated/fidgety. I'll be looking into these more over the next two weeks before we send out invites!

I am using the app. So far only 1 issue. I keep adding the widget for the meal selection once some say yes but it never appears. It works on the website but not the app. It's starting to get frustrating.

Just signed up to activate my site today. So far it feels quite fiddly and I'm flicking back and forth between example pages a lot to see what I can do. I could have sworn I saw something in the Appy Couple features list about seating charts but have been unable to find it since.

I'll need to ping them at some point too to set up the site to use a custom sub-domain of the greater domain that we already own.

    Hi Mary ,

I have a question regarding the format of the website. I have played around on the demo, however I am unable to find the answer to my question. With the photo section, are you able to create photo albums within the photo section ? Such as proposal photos, engagement party, ceremony, bride and groom, etc.

Mary, would I be able to add my video that has a song in it on the cover page on the app?
