Appropriateness of chargers

I'm only having it for the head table

Not tacky but definitely an unnecessary expense.

Having them only for the head table is tacky. Please do not do it. All tables should get the same food, wine, china, etc. At most, head table, if bigger, can have bigger centerpeice.

I understand it's definitely not necessary. Just wanting to know if it's inappropriate/tacky to have chargers with a buffet-- thanks!

I wouldn't think it's tacky. If you love it and it's in your budget I'd go for it.

I was going to have chargers but we are having buffet style as well so I feel like it would be unnecessary. I don't think you'll need them.

I am having chargers. Yes, they are added expense and not necessary. Depending on our final count we are having a buffet or plated (our guest list has climbed dramatically!). I would ask yourself what vibe are you trying to achieve? For me I'm going for the elegant candlelight look; real plates and all. A friend had an outdoor farm wedding and it wasn't as necessary particularly because she used high quality disposable plates. If you do decide on chargers, the dollartree has gold for $1 each. And yes, do the same for all

Just like most wedding decoration, chargers are unnecessary. I am not sure why so many people feel it is necessary to point out the fact they have deemed them unnecessary. I plan to use them because I like them. I will also have a buffet style dinner. Additionally, my sweetheart table will be decorated in a different manner than the guests tables. That also holds true for the cake and gift tables.

I'm having a buffet and using chargers...more so as decoration for the table.

@Sara- when I went to the rental place, they recommended NOT having chargers if you are doing a buffet and the plates are up at the buffet line because they said inevitably someone will think the charger is the plate and carry it up to the buffet and it's awkward. This isn't necessarily to discourage you from doing it since your FMIL seems pretty set on it but more for the OP!!!

I'm having buffet. My catering includes table cloths, napkins, plates, silverware, and charger plates.

Totally unnecessary. But since mine is included.

We had a buffet. Had chargers. I wanted the tables to look dressed. Personal preference. To me, it was worth the expense. If I had to limit my budget, they'd have been one of the first to go though.

I don't even know what that is, so no. LOL
