Appropriate wedding gift for aunt

blueruby, on April 21, 2015 at 8:24 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 1

My aunt (age 50+) is having her second wedding. I asked her if she was registered for gifts, and she said no because they don't need much. So I'm going to give her cash, but I don't know how much is appropriate.

Usually when my fiance and I give a cash gift, we give 100$ each (200 total) which seems to be the norm here. My aunt invited both my fiance and I, but he can't attend, so I don't know if this should affect my gift amount. Also, she is having a cash bar, and we have only been to open bars, so I don't know if that should affect it either.

If it's important to factor in, I haven't seen my aunt in over 2 years, never met her fiance, and have to get a hotel for the night as the wedding is in another city.

Thanks!

I think $100 is plenty considering the cost you are putting into going to the wedding. You may also consider going in on something with the rest of your family.
