Appropriate Gift Registry entries?

Stephanie, on February 17, 2018 at 4:06 PM Posted in Planning 0 8

What is appropriate for a gift registry, or rather what is not appropriate?

FH and haven't made any gift registries yet, but from the few conversations we've I had, I get the impression he thinks this is just like an old birthday or Christmas wish list. I have always thought gifts on the registry were more of a physical representation from your guests of their good wishes, and reminds you of them and the wedding as you use those items in your life. That being said, the last wedding we went to, the registry included a game console and some games. Are obvious entertainment gifts acceptable? Have I just misunderstood the wedding gift registry this whole time?

I kept ours at pretty typical household items. Practical things that can help you or improve your home. That being said, I enjoy cooking and I included some kitchen "luxuries" that are just for fun.

I also put some items that I could use around the house. A key holder, towels, new dishes, ect. We really didn't very many items, so we added some "wants" like the cat tree, dog hiking backpack, and picture frames. We even slapped some camping items to fill it up a bit.

It's pretty much a mix between your and your FH's ideas.

We included a sound bar on ours. We just bought a house this last year, and we have an awesome bonus room we set up as a theater room. The sound bar was the first thing we got as a gift, and the buyer actually upgraded to include a sub woofer. Some guests will want to give more traditional gifts, and some will want some more fun items that you can enjoy together. I would say if you guys enjoy playing games together there would be nothing wrong with it.

It's okay to put some fun stuff, but it should be gifts for the two if you to use as a couple. Household stuff clearly falls in that bucket. A video game system for him if you don't play video games is NOT appropriate, but if you both would use it, it is fine. Same with camping, hobbies, etc..... as long as it is something you would do together, it's reasonable to put it on the registry! Guests can choose whether they are comfortable giving you those gifts or would rather give things they feel are more meaningful, so make sure you have a variety of non-entertainment options too!

I think it is fine to mix and match on the registry- I wouldn’t put too many game items but some are fine. We put a bike rack on ours

I think it's ok to have a little of entertainment type things, as long as they aren't one sided or violent or anything. We put Scrabble and a couple of board games on ours, and a few camping items since we do that a lot together. I wouldn't go crazy, but a few games are probably fine.

FH wants to be a game system on ours, but I told him no. I wouldn't use it at all though. We're putting dinnerware, serving trays, drinking glasses, towels, new bed sheets, kitchen items, and a few pieces of home decor; vase, mirror, a couple lamps. We're keeping it very traditional.

We included almost all traditional household items for bathroom, bedroom, and kitchen. Though, we did add a kegerator (his one fun idea) for entertaining and camping gear (my fun idea) so we can go on trips together.
