Appropriate for a church?

Taylor, on March 30, 2021 at 6:27 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 7
Hi! I am LDS and I am not getting married in the temple. I have a beautiful sleeveless dress that I am wearing and then I am having my reception at my church. Does anyone know if I am allowed to wear my dress in the church? Is it unacceptable? I know Mormons have a dress code when we get married in the temple but I haven’t ever heard anything other than that. I have considered putting on attachable sleeves for the reception but figured I would see if anybody had an answer.
Thanks!

I’m not LDS but have attended many LDS receptions as a guest and as a caterer inside the “cultural halls”. I’ve never seen the bride wearing anything sleeveless, low cut, back showing, etc but always see guests who do. Since it’s not inside the actual chapel, I would imagine there’s no dress code...more likely it depends on your comfort level and what kinds of ‘looks’ you’re willing to put up with. Your best bet will be to consult the bishop over that particular ward.

You need to ask your clergy for clarification. Also do a Google search for LDS gowns

I’ve seem some really nice LDS gowns. But your local Elder (I think that’s what it’s called?) will know.

I've been to a lot of LDS receptions, and the brides and most guests adhere to the standard dress code of "cover anything your garments would" . If you ask someone in the church, they will probably judge you for even asking. If you feel like your family/your fiance's family wouldn't care (or just don't care if they will judge you!) then just go for it! They aren't going to kick you out or anything, just silently judge LMAO

The dress code rules are so freaking arbitrary in my opinion. I am not religious, but had a LOT of LDS friends and their families would always give me looks when I wore short dresses, crop tops, etc. But IDGAF so wore what made me happy.

I hope you choose to wear whatever you feel beautiful in! Sometimes asking for forgiveness is better than asking for permission haha

You need to wear a dress that would reasonably cover the garment un an LDS church. Hope those attachable sleeves aren't see-through! Pictures would help
