Hi y'all! I was wondering how people feel about just appetizers for our reception. We have about 120 guest on our list and we just can't afford a sit down dinner so we thought about doing some harty appetizers instead, like 6 or 7 different things. Hi y'all! I was wondering how people feel about just appetizers for our reception. We have about 120 guest on our list and we just can't afford a sit down dinner so we thought about doing some harty appetizers instead, like 6 or 7 different things. It will be an evening thing and we will have beer and wine. The venue that we have chosen will not let us bring outside food in so we have to go with their menu and we just can't afford it.

Thanks

I plan to possibly do appetizers only too. I have not figured out time but it’s 4 hour reception and 30 mins max ceremony. We planned to open the bar and possibly send out apps then while doing photos and just leave plenty out to snack?? Have not figured it out but I will tell you people are coming for you two NOT the food. If you put on there apps and desserts only they will be smart enough if not not your problem to feed their kids bring snacks and grab food prior!

I got a menu from a caterer recently and everything was 15.00 per person and up for dinner. I told them that was out of my budget and told them 6.50 pp for a pasta station was what I could afford. They accepted and said they three could do 3 sauces (chicken Alfredo, Marinara and meat sauce) and two pasta choices with bread and salad as well as tea and water setup! There’s such a high markup in food and if the venue wants your business they’re smart to work with you.

Just an update: we are going with a sit down dinner. Surprisingly a sit down dinner was cheaper per person than the buffet and almost the same as 7 appetizers. We changed the time so we are now 4-9pm and can do our sparkler send off! Thanks for all the advice ladies.

A 5 hour event and no meal? Is there gonna be alcohol served? Definitely a bad idea.
