Hi everyone

Dispute the chance of us rebooking, I still need to keep planning and making decisions.

The food and bar costs a high for us. I am trying to cut corners. The recommendation from the resort is appetizers and cocktail hour after ceremony, followed by reception dinner.

The dinner I am choosing has appetizers included , but no salad. This is 80usd pp, the appetizers are 24usd pp (I say usd because I’m actually in Canada so the conversion is pretty crappy for me) the bar service for 5 hours is 50 pp.

I am also hosting an “appy hour” on arrival day, and one group beach outing which will cost around $800 for both events.

In addition I feel like welcome gifts are needed in the rooms? Thoughts?

I can easily start the Bar service at cocktail hour, serve no appetizers and save myself $528. I can use this money for the guest events.

Is it tacky to only serve drinks between reception and dinner?

I feel like the welcome appy hour would be appreciated by the guest after flying 8 hours and many hours of travel time. I also get the impression that a destination wedding should have some kind of group activity arranged, and paid for by us. So I feel like I shouldn’t skip those 2 items.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

Thanks!

I guess I could also greet everyone with a run punch for each guest as they check in......that would reduce cost, still be a nice welcoming thing, and not require the guests to “mingle”

In that case, I would use the Jamaican items as a party favor at wedding and not as a welcome bag. And certainly greet them when they get to hotel. It sounds lovely.

I also agree it’s really important to serve appetizers at cocktail hour. If you need to skip appetizers at dinner. A salad would be nice but a full dinner meal is fine.

Skip the apps at cocktail hour and do your other 2 events you want to do!! You're going to be serving dinner right after that hour so let him drink and mingle and then serve dinner at reception!! Good luck with everything and congratulations on your upcoming wedding!!
