Appetizer platters

Bethanyvos, on May 16, 2021 at 10:42 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 4

I'm trying to decide how many appetizer platters to get for my wedding. Our total guest number right now is 140 including bridal party. The appetizers would be out while pictures are being taken. One venue says that the large platters serve 50-60 people. We are thinking one large cheese and charge, one large veggie and one large fruit. Is that enough?

No. You get enough of each to feed your entire guest list. No one will take only cracker or one grape. Your catering staff knows how much you need.

No, that is not enough. At that rate, each guest will get 1/3 a piece of cheese, a slice of apple, and a cherry tomato while waiting around for an hour for you to finish pictures.

Go with what your catering staff suggest, they know what they are doing.

I'd definitely ask for your venue/caterer's recommendation!! You should also ask for clarification on what they mean when they say a platter "feeds 50-60" - how many bites / servings per person is that? Personally I'd want to have enough food so that each guest can have at least 2-3 pieces of cheese, 2-3 veggies, and 2-3 fruits!

For passed hors d'oeuvres that tend to be a little larger, a rule of thumb I've heard is to estimate 6-8 appetizers per person (for a one hour cocktail hour). So to be on the safe side for the smaller bites I'd suggest estimating like 10-12 bites per person!!
