Anyone use the Bridal Veil, Oregon Post Office?

Fawn, on July 7, 2012 at 3:50 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 16

I know I just read that someone did but I can't remember who... Sorry!! I only found out about the Bridal Veil last week but it sounds really neat and I want to send my invitations through there. I can't use my phone at the moment and I doubt that I'd get through anyway so I figured I'd ask around here.

When you send the check for the stamps do you have to pay s&h for the postmaster to mail them to you? And how would you calculate that? Do you think it's really worth the postage to mail a box of your invitations somewhere that would mail them to your guests?

I'm considering it because I really don't trust that the people at my local post office care to hand cancel them...I think they're likely to "yes ma'am" me and then throw them into the regular pile as soon as I leave.

BV, OR would not ship them back to you. They would be mailed to your guests from that PO with the BV cancellation.

I was asking about the stamps... The instructions I read clearly state that BV will mail you the stamps and you attach them to the invitation envelopes. Then you box up the invitations to mail to BV to be mailed to your guests.

    I understand that part.

I just want to know if anyone had to send s&h for the stamps to be mailed to them or do you make the check out for only the price of the stamps.

Not sure how much this will help, but when I ordered stamps from usps I didn't have to pay for shipping

I just went through the order process at the usps site and it said I would need to pay $1.25 for shipping the stamps I need.... So I still don't know what to do.

I'm guessing I'll have to wait until Monday to try to call there unless someone who's done it recently see this.

Bridal Veil is about 30 miles east of me. It is in a very scenic area in the Columbia River Gorge.

Here is a bit of info about them:

@Fawn, It was me. We just got back from Vacation last night and we stopped and mailed them from there on Friday afternoon. The woman, I forget her name, is amazing and gets so excited with you. She really worked hard at making sure we had the best stamps and put them in a way that the hand cancel stamp looked good on them. I would have totally trusted her to handle them if we had mailed them to her.

First of all I completely agree on the hand canceling at your own post office. I mailed my daughters last year and the woman promised me she would hand cancel them, I even offered to pay extra for it, and she didn't do it. Well they had small crystals and it ripped the paper. We were pretty upset.

Ok here it is. Take one of your invites to your local post office and figure out how much the postage is, but don't buy it there. This little BV, PO relies on the brides buy their postage from them. Figure out how much you need and look up on the USPS website for your wedding stamp options.

Cont. Mail your instructions with a check to the BV, OR post office and how many of each and your options. She has a lot available so I am thinking she keeps a heavy supply. She will mail them back to you and you place them on your invites. What you

need to know is the handle cancel stamp needs to touch all of the postage stamps. We had 4 stamps because our invites were small A7 boxes. Once I get the one we mailed to our house I will post a picture. The cancel stamps come with doves or hearts and are about 2 inches by 1.5 inches. We put ours 3 across and one down. Once you stamp them box them up and mail them back to the BV post office and she will cancel them and mail them out for you.

Let me know if you have any other questions. I got our info from another HI bride that also lives down there and she has a great tutorial on her website.

Here's the instructions if anyone else would like to mail theirs from BV, OR.

I should say this link was borrowed from "Kimmy", another bride, on TK and she deserves the credit for offering such great detail in this process.

@Stephanie C, her name is Geri Canzler. She is the postmaster and only employee.

I just did a search to find out the mileage....I am closer than I thought. Bridal Veil is 26.5 miles east of downtown Portland, which puts me about 19 miles away.

Kathy, That's right "Geri". Really sweet lady!

We drove down to Oceanside, near Tillamook, and stayed in a beach cabin for the Fourth. I have never been to either parts of OR, the coast or the River. You live in beautiful country.

I kept telling FH that we need to retire there. Lol We'll see.
