Anyone Regret Wearing Their Hair Down or Half Up Half Down? Any Regrets?

PrettyinPink, on March 15, 2018 at 7:22 AM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 30

I ask this question not to offend anyone, but because my FMIL (a wedding planner) told me a lot of her brides have regretted wearing their hair down. She said it ends up looking flat towards the end of the wedding and has gotten in the way of pictures. I don't necessarily agree with her, but I was always under impression an updo would be mre elegant and classic. My venue and wedding is pretty formal and that was another reason I went with an updo. I’m sure many women who have had very formal weddings wear their hair down, I just thought knowing me it would be easier to have it up. I just haven't been happy with any of the updos my lady has done, which is unfortunate because I look better with my hair up - I believe. I don’t know what to do. I think doing half up/half down might be a good compromise, but again for work and just out of pure laziness I usually wear my hair up.

My SIL recently wore her hair down in her wedding and it was gorgeous from start to cold, rainy finish. I was planning on doing half up half down and sporting my curls (which I never do because I am a pony tail, messy bun girl because aint nobody got time) but after my brothers wedding and about halfway through the reception, I was searching for anything to put my hair up with (super hot from dancing). I decided to go with an up look but was at a loss with what to do because i didn't want it to be super formal. I'm having my trial today but going with victory curls/pin curls. Like a 1940s pin up girl look. I feel it'll be up and out of my way, I'll look better with my hair up, it'll stay put and I can absolutely rock that look. Also, it's not super formal. I don't see any issue with hair up, hair down, etc. My SIL has incredibly long thick hair and it was gorgeous. Pinterest has lots of ideas for updos if you're more comfortable that way!

My hair gets frizzy pretty quickly and that would be the reason to wear it up as well. But, I am wearing a strapless wedding dress and I kind of want the hair to "soften" my shoulders if that makes sense. I want to be comfortable, but I plan on sacrificing a lot of comfort for this wedding (oops). It is such a hard decision...

I'm so excited to see this, please post when you're done.

OP find a good stylist, sometimes extensions can help with making your hair look fuller throughout the night. In addition, take your hair and makeup through a trial run. Get it done, then go out on the town with your man. I got mine done than went to my bridal shower and bachelorette party. Helped with knowing I need a ton more hair spray.

I also suffer from the frizzy hair. Also doing a strapless dress. I love John freida's conditioner. It has helped mg frizz soooooo much. I'll snap a picture for you in a minute. Might be good to use it leading up to the wedding or even now and see if that helps. No matter what you do, you're going to my gorgeous. I would play around with different ideas for fun while at home. Like rough ideas of what'll look like. Up, down, with veil, etc.

My wedding is end of month and I've had two trials with the same artist. I wasn't thrilled with her, but being that I ran out of time I just had to book. That is partially why I want to wear my hair down.

Thanks! My wedding is end of month, but I will go out and test it out. Hopefully it doesn't make my hair greasy. My hair is thin!

That makes sense. Is anyone I your BP ok with hair? They may be able to puff your hair up if it needs it.

I don't think there's anything wrong with wearing your hair down. I would put something in it to help with the frizz. Also. Congrats! It's so close! What makes you feel the most beautiful and the most comfortable?

I just want to clarify that I'm not saying to wear your hair up. You asked if there's anything that could help with wearing your hair down and I just wanted to offer some suggestions. I'm sorry if i didn't state that beforehand

I totally get that!!! I'm a therapist, and when I find myself in situations I'm torn about I tend to bring in tools I teach my clients - this included my wedding bc FH and I had such different ideas about what to do. But I make a 2x2 grid, on the top I put pros and cons, and on the edge I put my choices. This gives me the ability to see everything without it all clouding my head. Honestly, I pull this out all the time and did it much better than a simple pros con's list.

Oh, I didn't think you did! I was just going back to the original post because she said her FMIL, I believe, was saying it was a bad idea.

Candace, I don't think I've ever seen you post a negative or doragatory thing here. You're always so positive. Also, thank you for being a therapist. I'm so excited to see how your wedding comes together. I love seeing your posts!

I don't like how I look with my hair up, even my grandma was like "you're going to wear your hair down right?" so if my Grandma who constantly tells me how beautiful I am made that comment I clearly should not have my hair up LOL. So overall I the most important thing is feeling confident about how you look when you walk down the aisle. You look most beautiful when you are confident. I'm using clip in extensions so my hair holds better but ultimately if it's not perfect by the way end of the night, I won't care as long as it was good for the ceremony and pictures during cocktail hour then I'm happy

My hair was down pretty much and it stole the show - people commented more on my hair than my dress. I don't like me with my hair up usually, so I certainly didn't regret it. It lasted fine throughout the night.

I wore my hair down and loved it! I have thick hair though and it's naturally wavy so it holds curls really well.

Horrible singing/Dancing picture LOL but it was taken right at the end of the night so you can see my what my hair looked like after 12 hours.

My hair never holds a curl well, so I don't want to worry about that. Our wedding is also in July, so I didn't want to sweat a lot during pictures and have my hair sticking to my skin like it usually does. I plan to do a low bun similar style.

I'm doing half and half. Although it's most like mostly down and a little pulled back. I just had my hair trial last weekend and made sure to take a photo and check it out every two hours. By hour 8 it was still looking great! So I have nothing to fear coming wedding day.
